The 9ers dropping a huge "make us an offer" hint with this news...

wouldn't offer more than a 5th for him... preferable a 5th of Smirnoff / or any other rail drink you can think of...

I'm not opposed Aiyuk is a very good Route Runner who can also be schemed open. Just entering the prime of his career: our WR situation gets very interesting after the upcoming season.

Imagine if we did what so many people wanted and traded a high pick for this "sure thing" only for him to implode.
We had a choice of Calvin Ridley, Brandon Aiyuk, or Keon Coleman. We were told Wolf was in on signing or drafting all 3 but barely missed. Thank God Wolf is incompetent.

You spent the last month telling us you want a tall receiver like Barefoot Hollins and now you want a 6'0" receiver with emotional problems? You are hilarious. Did you do stand up comedy in a prior life?

NGL Your Immensity, I'm relieved to finally see your post. I was no more than 2 hours from contemplating how to initiate a wellness check for you.

You know I can't I help it: they always draw me in.

Hope he enjoys the kind of straight line winds you get in KC...or Buffalo.

A 3rd rounder and something else. I like AJ and the Vrabel connection but NOT like him for a 2nd as he's 29 years old.
I was thinking our first for their 2nd swap

I mean, it's Buffalo, right? They'll probably spend a top-100 pick to get him.
And their fans will act like they just won the Super Bowl, right before he pulls the same **** on them.

I almost feel like even that would be a waste given how the Maye/McDaniels offense has been evolving - take a look at the targets per player.

We don't have anything similar to Moss/Welker who Brady threw to on almost every play.

Maye spreads the ball out so much our #1 WR (Diggs) only had @100 targets - yet also had 85 catches (yup - he only fails to make the catch 15% of the time!)

Part of the reason that completion rate IS so high is BECAUSE he spreads the ball out so much and even utilizes guys like Boutte and even little guys like Douglas and Rhamonde as legit deep threats.

DCs really just aren't quite sure how to defend that - they'll put their best CB (or more) on Diggs and then Diggs might go an entire game without even getting a target while Douglas and others go on a tear. And as soon as the D adapts to the hot receiver Diggs of course gets his looks and catches almost 9 out of 10 balls.

Spending money on a true elite Moss-esque guy who expects 175+ targets a season - at the expense of all the other receivers we have - is a waste and undermines what makes Maye and the Pats so potent, as odd as that may sound.

Let's put it this way - if Diggs (who I agree may even be better next season) got the same amount of targets as Chase, I don't think he'd even come CLOSE to his 85% completion rate.

He'd be closer to 60% like Chase actually IS - just think of all those catches others would make.

Jefferson is an even better example. He's in that elite category and gets @ 150 targets a season - 50% more than Diggs

And that earned him 84 catches last season

Which is great - but Diggs had 85 catches on just 100 targets. Meanwhile, what happened to all those other targets that an elite WR getting 150 targets would have missed? Well on the Patriots those targets go to guys like Douglas, Henderson, Stevenson etc. - who make the catches the teams who put all their $ on the "elite" receivers leave on the table.

Paying a guy like Diggs is money well spent - but it's better to spread the rest around with quality depth than to "waste" it on a WR looking for 150 - 185 targets a season - all of which makes an offense really predictable and can be its achilles heel.
I agree with most of what you posted above. Unpredictability is a good thing, but so is having an elite guy that needs to be accounted for by at least two LB/DB’s every play… Great guys like Moss and Gronk really left 8-9 guys to cover 10 offensive players…

I wouldn’t offer them a 2056 7th, because you would have to on his contract.

Only sensible trade for BA would be for another injured / low stock guy with an inflated contract

Here's the thing, and I'm amazed I have to say it again; the league is awash in good WR's of all shapes and sizes. You can pick up a good one in the first 4 rounds is every draft. Hell we have people going crazy here for a kid who we got AFTER the damned draft was over. Yes, there are a few exceptional guys, and we all can name a bout 5-7 off the top of our heads, but they don't command the room like they used to. You are wiser to spend your money on an impact OLman than an impact WR if you have an elite QB. One guy will give you 60 plays a game where they can impact the game, the other just 10-15. It's just a matter of math and the budget. It's still a hard cap, despite what Felger says.

Just look at what they college game is pouring into the league each year. The us a HUGE supply of quality young talent entering the league, just as there is a lot of young guys like Boutte who are maturing into NFL quality WR's. Soon teams will start to see a glut and WR will soften.

I believe strongly that if you are lucky enough to have a Drake Maye quality WR you do NOT need to pay a premium for receivers because a great QB elevates those around him, like we have seen Drake do this season. If you have a Bo Nix, Jalen Hurts (good but not great) type of QB, then you'd probably want to invest in that #1 type guy.

That said, why not let him elevate a true WR1, like Brady with 2007 Moss? [Not a plug for Aiyuk, just the general idea of a clear WR1.]

Dude does not move the needle enough on this team even if he was his 2023 self. We have too many other glaring needs that need to be addressed moving forward before we add more receivers. OL/DE/LB they all come to mind as more of a need moving forward.
