I'm not really concerned about that. Go and look at what the Pats did against "Weak O-lines". Pats had 4 sacks and another 11 pressures on the Raiders despite Kolto Miller playing. The Pats just put up 4 sacks with 8 additional pressures on Ewers. The Pats had 1 sack and 10 additional pressures on Brady Cook.

The Pats got 13 total pressures on Josh Allen in the 2nd game. They generated 11 pressures on Jaxson Dart.

With Milt Williams return, Cory Durden seeming to be breaking out, and the potential return of Spillane and Landry, this will be a better defensive team than what we saw from weeks 12-17.
Someone I was listening to mentioned that we very rarely get pressure with just our front four. But if we start blitzing, it makes it harder on our defensive backs, especially those covering TEs and RBs. So, I'm not feeling overwhelmingly optimistic about our chances to exploit a beat up line.

Just heard the Chargers wild card game will be Sunday at 8pm.

Thought that’s enough to start 5he pregame discussion thread.

What do we think of that?
First of all, the Donkeys can take that bye and shove it up their inferior asses.

As for this game coming up Sunday night, I expect the Patriots to be resting their starters in the fourth quarter again, for several reasons:

1. The Chargers are the reason we're even playing a game at all this week in the first place. They didn't even try to beat the ripe-for-the-picking Broncos, acting like they wanted to come here and play us. Well, that's exactly what they're going to get.

2. According to local Boston sports talk radio, Christian Barmore and Stefon Diggs molested thousands of children over decades before murdering them. Further, most of them trumpet that the Patriots did something - anything - to deserve having not one but two(2) first-round draft picks stolen from them. They, along with their fellow media morons across the nation, can eat ****.

3. Justin Herbert sucks.

4. Anyone who was there(including Drake) or saw the Bolts' 40-7 beatdown of us at dreary Gillette one year ago December 28th, along with their 6-0 shutout of us again at Gillette also in December two years prior(Rhamondre, along with Hunter Henry, who had five injury-plagued seasons in SD/LA before we signed him, played in both) knows that this is an entirely different situation now. Opposite, in fact.

5. Jim Harbaugh sucks. As far as I'm concerned, he can go back to the Toreros on Monday.

I simply want to get on to the divisional round, and give our guys a proper send off in what may be our last home game this year.

Herbert is 2nd to Maye in success against the blitz. I wouldn't blitz and with the interior O-line weakness for LA and Barmore and Williams they shouldn't need to.
I think Herbert is really beat up. They can get to him.

I think the defense lets us down in a big way this weekend. I don't think we will be able to put as much pressure on Herbert as needed, Herbert is a good QB and won't miss lay ups like many of the QBs we have played. This is all assuming that we stick with zone, but I am really hoping that they come out press man and run it a lot.

The Chargers have a good defense, but I am sure that McD and Maye can overcome Minters defense.

I hope that I am wrong but I see chargers winning 28-24.

The outcome of this game does not change that this season has been a huge success.

I also think there is a case to be made for Herbert as MVP

Hmmm….

Interesting dichotomy in regards to the Patriots today vs 365 days ago, and what Pats Fans were discussing a year ago.

January 5: Patriots beat Bills' backups in final game of 2024 season
January 5: Jerod Mayo fired
January 6: Patriots make request to interview Lions OC Ben Johnson for vacant head coach position
January 7: Patriots interview former Bucs OC Byron Leftwich and former Texans OC Pep Hamilton for HC
January 8: Patriots make request to interview Lions DC Aaron Glenn for HC

Forecast for Foxboro on Sunday:

Guessing we're looking at mid 30's by kickoff. 15mph wind might be interesting.

I think the cold factor is overstated a little this time. The Chargers aren't Peyton's Colts... they just won a game in Arrowhead in single digit temps and we all know what happened the last time the Pats played in a freezing environment out in Buffalo in the wild card round.

Weather forecast has deteriorated slightly.

On Sunday evening after the Phins game the forecast for next Sunday (see below) was partly cloudy with a high of 45 and winds 10 to 15, dropping to a nighttime low of 27 and winds 5 to 10. Now the day is chillier, and rainy early, with winds picking up in the evening.

Seems some fairly weak weather maker is moving through. I’d expect the forecast to continue to change, most likely following the trends over the past several days. So, continuing to be less hospitable to a fair weather team from balmy Southern California.

Might be getting into low 30s by game time.

Here’s that forecast from three days ago:

I just don’t want wet weather. This season, that’s about the only thing that’s slowed Maye down.

He's practicing.

Landry practicing is good.

This is not good: “Moses, Lowe, Bradbury, and Jennings are absent due to illness, per Vrabel.”

He's practicing.

Wilson is practicing, wearing a non-contact jersey. Seems like he’s moving into the later stages of concussion protocol. May be cleared by game time. Might not play if he is cleared because of lack of practice time, but at least could be active and available in case of other OL injuries.

Good I mean glad Campbell is not among the wounded.

Bad weather might hurt us more. We arent the old 2000's patriots preferring the muddied up cold weather for our D. We need to win on offense.

Yeah and it may be him and Brown playing C and LG if Bradbury is out with flu-like symptoms. Who would be at C and who would be at LG? Prob Wilson at LG...I don't believe he has played at C yet.
