The biggest change is just the overall confidence level. He knows what he has to do and he is doing it.
Mayo may one day develop that level of confidence, but it's not there yet.
It's not an age or experience thing, either. John Madden was 32 when he took over the Raiders and went on to have the greatest ten year stretch in NFL history (at the time).
Some coaches just have IT to start with. Some need to develop IT. Some will never have IT.
Some are just better as coordinators. McDaniels just doesn't have IT. But he is a great offensive coordinator. Unfortunately, being a great coordinator does not guarantee you have IT. The head coaching IT requires a different skillset. You can be an average coordinator, but turn out to be a fantastic head coach.
