The biggest change is just the overall confidence level. He knows what he has to do and he is doing it.

Mayo may one day develop that level of confidence, but it's not there yet.

It's not an age or experience thing, either. John Madden was 32 when he took over the Raiders and went on to have the greatest ten year stretch in NFL history (at the time).

Some coaches just have IT to start with. Some need to develop IT. Some will never have IT.

Some are just better as coordinators. McDaniels just doesn't have IT. But he is a great offensive coordinator. Unfortunately, being a great coordinator does not guarantee you have IT. The head coaching IT requires a different skillset. You can be an average coordinator, but turn out to be a fantastic head coach.

Vrabel was not my first choice. Thought he was a nostalgic pick and that's it. I'm so glad I was wrong about him.

Having been a player here hes gonna get a pass for lots of it. I think I was worried at first that itd be a Mike Signaltry (sp) situation where you hope he isn't a blowhard. Vrabs knows what hes doing and has a GOOD supporting cast which helps a ton.

Yep. Assholery in the right proportion and in the right setting can be a virtue. You just balance it up with a little charm or humor.

Real fan 02, you hit the nail on the head. The day they landed Vrabel was like a giant exhale after 2 years of bad feelings. I was so happy. I wanted him as the Pat’s head coach after Belichick left. But was thrilled we landed him in 2025. I remember seeing an interview with former Titan Taylor Lewen about Vrabel shortly after the Pats singed him, it just hyped me up even more than when they signed Vrabel, and believe me , I was REALLY hyped.

You just knew he was a great coach, got the Titans to the AFCCG as their coach, won coach of the year, and after stumbling for years after firing Vrabel, I bet you they wish they had him back.

He’s the perfect coach for the Pats. I love the guy. Wish I could’ve said it as eloquently as Real fan 02.

It took a season, but it eventually happened… can’t complain.
