The Dolphins went on a four game winning streak, not a ten game one. And the Dolphins only played two teams the Pats didn't (Indy and Chargers).

I think he's a good/great/elite OC. I think he got exposed this year when things were tough that he's not well rounded.

He’s the Rex Ryan of OC/HCs. Do some things that get you credit but dont end up winning you football games and while you are no good for your team, you trick people into thinking you are good.

To this day most people don’t realize that Rex Ryan was a loser and his defensive system never won ****.

I'm not saying it was a good idea, but I understand what happened. Tua was holding out in camp and their backups looked even worse than Tua. If they had taken the hit and gotten rid of Tua right then, this team that the GM had built to win now would have gone to waste and he would have been fired. Tua had looked decent for a couple of years, so they gave him the contract and hoped it'd work out. It didn't and the GM got fired anyway and now the team is stuck with Tua.

The "going rate" argument was going strong at the time. I really believe there are 5-10 quarterbacks worth the crazy money and after that you're better off just grabbing someone like Sam Darnold or Geno or even Mac.

Oh absolutely, but I think it’s a good illustration of why you shouldn’t put the keys to the handcuffs in the hands of a GM who might be gone in a year.

I agree, but that’s the road that typically ends up costing HCs and GMs their jobs. So they’d rather spend the money on the QB in the house and hope it works out. It often doesn’t and ends up sinking the HC, GM and the team.

It’s all about having conviction in what you are doing. You don’t sign a guy who isn’t the guy because you are afraid the next mediocre guy is worse. You don’t out the decisions in the hands of a guy you don’t believe 100% in.
It’s like any other business, bad employees cost you big time. Hoping they get better, or pretending they can improve doesn’t work. Get rid of the guy who isn’t either a reason you will win or a complementary piece with a good attitude. Be certain about decision makers being capable, and make them have a plan and trust it.

Every year you see teams over pay to keep players or sign players they think are must have and then they lose. Every year we see teams lose guys, miss out on free agents, get injuries and have perceived weaknesses, and win. You only have strength if you draw a line and are willing to walk away.
The weak minded decision maker build a weak minded team. Miami is exhibit #1

Coaching staffs that can develop QBs survive. Coaching staffs that can’t get fired. Who coaches him is more important than who you drafted and put out there. Most will fail without strong coaching, it’s too big a leap for all but a savant to make. All QBs drafted in the first couple of rounds have the basic skill set to win in the NFL if they develop properly. They can’t all carry a team to a championship but in the right system developed properly they can qb a contender.

Christian Elliss showed he doesn't belong on an NFL defense. Gibbens isn't much better, but he is better.

Landry's not great, but he had 2 things going for him coming into the season:

1) He was available.
2) He was willing to come here.

Several people have been talking about gaping holes on both sides of the ball all season long - it's not a finished product. I get people are frustrated by the loss, but people losing their **** over people who are borderline starters at best, or shouldn't be starters at all, is kind of crazy to me.

You can't give half of an NFL-caliber defense MULTIPLE short fields and expect them to somehow shut it all down. It's frustrating, but let's all be realistic.

Spillane is *fine*. He's a replacement-level starter who didn't play Sunday. Milton Williams is a superstar who didn't play on Sunday. Carlton Davis is a replacement-level starter who missed big chunks of the game due to his customary injury, forcing yet another special-teamer-level player to take his place.

It's not a finished product, they did what they could with what they had. Heart only takes you so far. When healthy. this defense rises to the level of 'good enough'. They weren't healthy.
