NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

Wait. Wait. Wait.

Mac Hollins sucks. I am sure I read that right here.

*scrolls back*

Yup. I did.
Well it’s true.

I guess the biggest upside for the Pats today is that they will face the Jets twice without Sauce and Williams.
The jets seem unlikely to win any more games

I guess Olave is off the Table.
We are going to need a good luck charm that no major injuries the rest of the season. The depth is thin on this team especially defense.. Vrabel stood pat...

Depth is no thinner than any other team.

Serious question here…Which trade that was made this deadline do you wish the Pats made themselves? I’m not really seeing any other than the Dremont Jones for a 5th trade.

I'm glad that Vrabel chose not to part ways with more of our depth.

Really? He works with Maye and that's all that matters.

Admittedly this is a Drake Maye tweet but even so.

To be fair, Maye is making those receivers look a lot better than they are.

Put an average NFL QB behind center and those guys don't put up nearly those efficiency numbers.

You don’t blow anything up by trading a 5th round pick
There is just no way that this team is sitting there saying we are 7-2 but we can’t keep it up so let’s just flop on the floor and start losing. Coaches don’t discount success because of opponent, fans do that. Coaches don’t beat the top team in the conference in their house and say we aren’t ready to compete.
You are assuming they could have gotten anyone worth getting for a 5th. Add to that, there seems to be a host of teams with NE on some sort of trade blacklist.

None.

....and it takes two to make a trade. Strunk has an issue with Vrabes.

They're not saying that. They're saying that we are still in year one of a rebuild, albeit one that is well in advance of expectations, and there's no point in sabotaging that rebuild for the sake of half season reclamation projects.

Someone posted to me at the weekend about all the people the Patriots need to replace in the coming two years: Hooper, Henry, Chaisson, Hawkins, Tonga, Moses, Onwenu, three of our linebackers, Pop, maybe Boutte, Bradbury to name more than a few. It's not as though the rebuild is complete. The more picks they have, the better they can accomplish that. Sacrificing those picks for rentals that probably don't move the needle outside of depth makes the rebuild harder.

I'm sure they had targets, some of whom probably weren't traded to us because they're in the division. On some, they probably balked at the price. That happens.

Let's look who actually got traded.

Jackobi Meyers for a 4th and 6th. Price is way too high for a guy who would have trouble starting here.
Rashid Shaheed for a 4th and 5th, same thing.
Qunnien Williams for a 1st and 2nd - would be a rotational guy
Ahmad Gardner - 2 first round picks. I'm good not doing a Trent Richardson trade.

@Bill Lee nailed it. Seller's market, those prices are actually insane for the return.

Curran and Perry wanted to trade Diggs plus a high pick (day2) for Meyers.

That's why I said it was a Maye tweet. But those WRs are working for Maye and that's all that really matters.

None. Williams and Gardner were awful trades.
