I just went over to check on PFT and the first article I read was that Asante Samuel Jr. was just cleared to return to football play. The good news is he is currently a FA in need of a job.

Not only would he be a big upgrade and improve our depth, especially for those tough games late in the season and the playoffs.

Sign him and give him a month to go through his own little TC and have him ready for the last 3 or 4 games of the season and the playoff push.

We are a rising contender, I'm sure he has some memories as a child here, and we fans promise not to hold it against for the pick drop in 2007. PLUS there is no need to give up draft capital AND it doesn't have to be done by 4pm tomorrow.

BTW- in a later story, Raheem Morris walked back his claim that the Pats did anything wrong on that early snap. Sounds like the C snapped it early and is using the clapping **** as an excuse for his blunder. I STILL think Morris didn't go far enough, but it's a start

Samuel is interesting as he is 26 years old and has 4 seasons under his belt.
Cleared to play after spinal fusion...
Nothing lost to bring him in for a workout and assess if he would fit into our defensive system.

Samuel would be the 4th corner here. CB 4 has played about 100 snaps in 7 games. I think Samuel will want to go somewhere with more opportunity to play.

No thanks.

I would agree he would need 3-4 weeks to get into any semblance of football shape/making and taking hits, tackling, etc. that would leave 4-5 games (plus playoffs?). is he interested on a make good type deal with no promise of regular snaps?

And no snaps next year either as all 3 corners are returning.
There are teams that will offer him a long term deal at starter pay. We aren’t a possibility here

I am not opposed to bringing him in for a workout. Any port in a storm.

But similar as someone else said; Gilmore may be same level of physical capability with less baggage.
Younger guys on PS (ours or others) may have more room to grow, even if their starting floor is lower.

yes, my comment was made as a rest of the season show me opportunity/contract

In relation to Gilmore, Samuel isn't in his mid 30's he's 26 just entering his prime. But he is coming back from serious back surgery and will have to prove he still has at least most of the physical gifts that made him an elite corner before his injury.

It could be that this might be a good time to transition to FS and STILL would be a good pick up. At any rate, the good news is that HE has something to prove and as a half season rental he isn't going to command a huge play day. That will come if or when he proves he still has it.

In the mean time he fills a need at 2 positions on a team that can afford him the 2 or 3 weeks he needs to get fully ready to show off his ability and get the highest price in 2026. Hopefully if he's good, he'll give us the first shot at his services and then it's up to the brain trust to decide.

I would have been OK if we had signed Gilmore at any time, but there are teams with worse CB problems than us that have failed to get him or rather trade draft assets to get someone else, when he is there for free. Makes me wonder what he has left?

Maybe Gilmore is waiting for the right opportunity?
Maybe teams have inquired and wants to wait till later in the season.
Maybe he has no interest in playing.
Regarding Samuel, I don’t think he was ever an elite CB.

Maybe will play in postseason for a contender to get a ring .

I'm going to say no.

I don't want his father within 100 miles of this program.
Don't worry his key card doesn't work anymore... it got canceled the day after the 2008 superbowl..

I'd got as far to say Gilmore at 32 might even be an upgrade not just to the depth but maybe even over C. Davis??... give me some context here DD?

He's played at a high level in the league.. training camp all pro Austin is buried on the depth chart.. #22 woods seems be the 1st guy off the bench.. Samuel Jr. Would be a huge upgrade. Provided he is healthy.. Samuel Sr.. seems to have an issue with BB who's no longer here.. and he was teammates with Vrabel so....
