Patriots need to get more out of Henderson

How much does Henderson's role get tasked with in the McDaniels offense? Both White and Vereen took awhile and honestly seemed most tapped in the post-season. Henderson's role, I can imagine, is a lot: do I need to block? Am I gonna run? Where am I gonna run? Am I gonna catch?

I'm guessing playing his role in this offense is tough. Anyone care to expand on the pass-catching back's role in a McDaniels offense with more clarity?

I really think the blitz pickup stuff will come back. They just need to bulk the dude a little bit. I could see him being a great weapon next year as this offense settles in more and more.

I also feel they are intentionally holding him and KW back for surprise packages/plays in playoffs . Considering that we most likely will make it as division seed or WC entrant, why reveal more than what is needed.

Again this is wishful thinking. Let's hope it's that way .

But we might need them to get some success before trying in playoffs . Maybe they start opening up a bit more after bye week .

I'm not so sure he hasn't.

Remember, the Patriots have basically led or not been in any real trouble for 4 straight games now.
I'm starting to think McDaniels is holding some packages back, so it's not on tape. He's been playing a lot of boring chess this season, especially over the last month.

There's a long-term strategy from the entire coaching staff. I'm here for it.
I agree with this. I think Josh is a brilliant OC. Like many brilliant people, he often overthinks stuff, falls a little too much in love with his own bright ideas, but on balance, there aren't many better at his job, and I think he's got a little "quarterback whisperer" in him as well. I trust him, and the complaints don't really make a lot of sense to me, unless some people are just annoyed by eggheads, which I get. Sometimes when I look in the mirror, I get a little peeved myself.

How do we view Josh as an OC when it comes to efficiently utilizing the run? I know he's got a solid reputation with QBs but what do y'all think about his run attack?

Totally agree. I haven't gone back and re-watched the game but I saw Moses get handled a couple times with ease. He looks old and slow and I would be surprised if he gets through the season. I love the guy and his attitude but I think he needs to hang up his cleats. They will need to rebuild that right side next year if not sooner.
He doesn't just look it...He lives it. Even though his skills have diminished some, I still think he was a great signing because of the leadership in the OL room. He just seems like he is more of a leader than Owenu and Bradford.

I agree that he should call it a career, but it will be hard especially given the progress the Pats have made in the rebuild. I fear that Vrabes may have to cut him at some point rather than him retiring or he gets a season ending injury.
Really puzzling. I thought McDaniels would draw up plays to get him involved and in open space but they really havnt.
Josh has a tendency to sit on things until they are really needed. I imagine that there are plays in the playbook designed for Hendo

Bradbury?

Moses was maybe our best OLman this past Sunday against the Titans. No pressures, no sacks, and great run blocking. Rham looked great running right. There is no chance of Moses getting cut.

Henderson has a lot to learn. All of the Henderson hype, like the Chism hype, was very premature. Preseason superstars. I think we need to slow the Henderson talk.

My wife and I had been talking about Sam Bradford as a QB derailed by injuries. Yes I meant Bradbury. Thanks

I was referring to after the season, and was commenting on Moses retiring. My response was I don't think he would retire, but will need to be cut or injured to get him off the team. Not that I want him off the team, I just don't think he will retire at the end of the season.

He does have a lot to learn and he is getting some snaps to help expedite the learning process. I do think that McD has plays designed for Henderson, but he is not ready because of the learning that he needs. I am not pushing a Henderson agenda and agree that the talk was a bit aggressive about him being the #1 guy.

I'm reading more and more these days about the effect of constant negativity as a factor in the development of dementia. Some here would be wise to realize the damage they are doing to themselves with their non stop never ending negativity.

He had his welcome to the NFL moment getting blown up on a block, so we haven't seen him much since. The Pats need to find a way to run the ball better.

I think Henderson is having trouble recognizing where the pressure is going to come from, and Stevenson is an excellent pass protector, so he's not getting the reps we expected. The other factor that is limiting the contributions of Henderson and Chism is that Maye wants to put the ball downfield, and given the results that's hard to argue with. He just doesn't seem to be comfortable throwing the ball within the first 5 yards from scrimmage. Henderson, Williams, and Chism are all going to become valuable players and significant contributors to the Patriots going forward, and Vrabel giving them the time to develop properly is an important factor in their development. Ignore the noise from damaged fans who want everything now, just give them time.

HaHaHa love it Huck.
But on a serious note, having seen it up close first hand, **** it ain't pleasant.

I always envisioned his role as a RB1B like Woodhead when he was here.
Remember we didn’t go into the season expecting to have the most accurate QB in the history of the sport who hadn’t make a significant mistake in a month.
Wait until Josh unrolls the 11 personnel spread hurry up package that we used in the Gronk/Murderer years.
Henderson will be featured in that. He will also see time in regular 3rd down packages and maybe 1/4 to a 1/3 in base

By the end up the season Henderson will be in there for around 50% of the snaps.
Honesty one of the things “holding him back” is that Stevenson has okayed really well in the passing offense.

Winning shuts them up. Sam rarely posts any more since we are winning.

Good to be without his droning negativity. God he was boring

Thanks for the deep concern and psychotherapy update.

He's always been impatient aside from 2018 when he suggested to Bill that they had to stop trying to throw the ball like it's 2007.

We’ve always had a good running game with him and never really devoted a lot of assets to RB and favored pass blocking skills in OL.

After posting this I checked. Average ranking in rushing yards under McD in NE 11th. Top 10 8 of 13 years. Aside from 2015 when every RB was injured and we were #30, his average rank was 9.
Also in 13 years we were never worse than 12th in rushing TDs, were top 6 10 of 13 years and averaged ranked 6.
