Kayshon Boutte, how does he do it?

Boutte has been tremendous. All he does is get open and catch anything thrown his way. There's a world where he and Diggs both reach 1000yds by the end of the season. Hopefully this one.
Agreed and nothing looks forced. Everything looks seamless between he and Drake they have a great connection.

Also, him being deactivated after not toe tapping in his first game as a pro week 1 in 2023 was a terrible move by BB.
Like many others I lost count.

If only he could’ve transferred some of that knowledge to Javon Baker
Maybe we could get Baker on our PS.

He MAY have learned from his experiences.

There WERE positive signs, I thought.

With his draft tumble and first few years Boutte was served a big serving of humble pie, he seems to have matured. Good for him, I’ll admit I was very skeptical, but he fought to get to this point.
That's not a good characterization of his career. Any humble pie occurred in college - he didn't mesh with Brian Kelly and then later it came out that he was into gambling. His draft stock fell mainly due to a bad ankle injury. BB basically benched him after he didn't get his 2nd foot down in a 2023 game, then last year he was OK amid the chaos.

He's been nothing but a model citizen here, no maturity issues. Anyone paying attention could see from the start that he had a special combination of hands-power-smooth route running to go along with decent 4.5 speed. I'd like to see him get the ball on a slant and watch him run in the open field cause he's a threat with the ball, we just haven't seen that yet.

I think anyone who had to live and work through the power struggle between BB and Jonathan, then endure the disaster that was Jerod Mayo endured some humble pie. Tough times make tough people.

He's a savvy route runner, smart, good though not amazing athlete, but has the trust of his uber talented QB and often that's enough. I'd still like them to get some more speed and athleticism on the field and build around Boutte, Diggs and Henry's consistent play. For this year anyway they certainly have a good collection of weapons.

He survived having Troy Brown as his WR coach, and now has dramatically improved his route-running, his understanding of the offense, and his hands. He always had good hands, but it's definitely improved.

Pop Douglas seems to be emerging from the shadow of Troy Brown as his WR coach now too, just gotta get him to run the routes he's supposed to, and not just flatten them out if he feels like it.
Pop did very well his rookie year - dude was getting double teamed end of season because he was one of the few if not the only dependable guy. I always said TB80 was a good slot coach (see Jakobi), but was terrible at other receiving coaching duties.

Eh, was Douglas really playing well or was it just opportunity? The other WRs were Parker, Juju, Reagor, and Thornton. He just doesn't seem to have much understanding of coverages and situational football, nor is he a precise route runner. I think him getting doubled was more just that the defense had more guys than they needed to cover what we had so might as well double the best guy. I don't think Douglas was playing any better that year than he has since.

Boutte has 25 targets and 356 yards. Pop has 23 targets/118 yards .

That's how big a gulf there is. If Boutte had more than 40 targets we might be looking at 650 yards in first 7 games .

Most likely Boutte might cross the 1000 yard season this year along with diggs .

I don't see how Williams or Chism will get a chance . Even for pop it's looking challenging to get passes .

And if run game improves expect lesser passes and targets from maye..

Wr we just don't need yet . Make sure we get some good safeties and cornerbacks who can prevent these long passes in first quarter.
We still have several needs. WR does not appear to be one of them.

I keep an eye on Kayshon when the camera gives me the opportunity to do so in games, he keeps getting open. He does not look like he is moving fast but he is constantly getting seperation. Is he just deceptively fast or just skilled in route running?
Also for the season, he is catching 80% of the balls that have come his way.
What impresses me the most is his demeanor post TDs, so professional, nothing over the top. Gives the ball to the refs and get back to focus. I think his recovery from the ankle injury took longer than most were willing to give him a chance. BB got a star WR in the making after all.

He was fast from HS - including very fast in the 400, which meant he has great speed endurance, which meant he could stay faster longer throughout the game, theoretically.

HS times: 10.97/20.87/47.83.

Mack Hollins is our #2 WR in snap count. Along with Jaylin Hawkins and the LB position next to Spillane, those are the worst starter/high snap count players on our team. I would say WR is still a need.

For maye who loves to deep throw Balls, he needs these tall receivers who can jump ball and catch them if not prevent them from being a interception.

Besides our oline is still developing and we could use Hollins blocking , both for middle runs as well as screen runs .

Sum of all things that Hollins does is so good - blocking, Jump ball , quai tight end , red zone target , good ST player . It never reflects in stats.

Yesterday mcaffrey ran so much and he gave credit to Kittle whose presence as well as blocking allowed him easier matchups and better running lanes. Kittle did not contribute anything significant on receiving and stats will not show how crucial he was.

Don't fix something that ain't broke.

It’s not currently a need. In the offseason if Williams hasn’t progressed and Diggs starts slipping then it’s a need again.

If it’s not broke don’t fix it. Diggs and Boutte have been more than enough for Maye. Both guys are lingering in the 800-1000 yard receiving projections this season. And Boutte is still getting better.

If Mack Hollins were playing BADLY, you would have a point.
He's not. He's doing everything he's asked to do.

He was the HC for 20 years, so mistakes were inevitable. During his final years in NE, I think we had threads detailing his blunders.

And for those that clamour for a deep threat, Boutte is 6th in the NFL at 16.7 yds/catch.
If only we could get guys like the one at #1 with 22.2
