Kayshon Boutte, how does he do it?

Troy Brown has the distinction of being the last 8th round draft pick in Patriots history. After 1993 (he got drafted with Drew), it got cut down to the 7 rounds we still have today.
True but with the 32 comp picks that started in 1994, there is an extra round so it is essentially 8 rounds and 256 picks.

I had him as starting WR all along. Anyone doubting that either wasn’t paying attention or were trying to get attention

I stated many times that Boutte was a break out player, so pleased for him.

He survived having Troy Brown as his WR coach, and now has dramatically improved his route-running, his understanding of the offense, and his hands. He always had good hands, but it's definitely improved.

Pop Douglas seems to be emerging from the shadow of Troy Brown as his WR coach now too, just gotta get him to run the routes he's supposed to, and not just flatten them out if he feels like it.
Pop also needs too understand when to sit in a zone.

Fred Belitnikoff, Steve Largent, Jerry Rice, Kayshon Boutte. Howzat?

Pedestrian athletic numbers. Otherworldly skills.

Boutte continues to be wide open

Don't forget Anquan Boldin.

I keep an eye on Kayshon when the camera gives me the opportunity to do so in games, he keeps getting open. He does not look like he is moving fast but he is constantly getting seperation. Is he just deceptively fast or just skilled in route running?
Also for the season, he is catching 80% of the balls that have come his way.
What impresses me the most is his demeanor post TDs, so professional, nothing over the top. Gives the ball to the refs and get back to focus. I think his recovery from the ankle injury took longer than most were willing to give him a chance. BB got a star WR in the making after all.

I believe alot of it as KB has said in his own words to Steve Burton. Maturity. He stated he had to get his mind right and Mature and stop doing things the way he was doing them. That started to happen last season. He has become a playmaker for the offense and a reliable target. He is absolutely a player that Vrabel will look to extend to a second contract.

Well supposedly he was a 1st rd talent before his injury so the potential has been there. Great find by BB

We still haven’t seen his ceiling, right now on pace for 862 yards and steadily improving. He may flirt with 1k this year, imagine having 2 1k wr’s in one season. Its been a LONG time since we had that

With his draft tumble and first few years Boutte was served a big serving of humble pie, he seems to have matured. Good for him, I’ll admit I was very skeptical, but he fought to get to this point.

And for those that clamour for a deep threat, Boutte is 6th in the NFL at 16.7 yds/catch.
Now 5th at 17.8 yards a catch. He’s the best Pat’s deep threat. Tied for 3rd in the NFL for TD catches with 4.

Hoped Williams would be a deep threat, and hoping he isn’t the next Tyquan Thornton.

Boutte has 25 targets and 356 yards. Pop has 23 targets/118 yards .

That's how big a gulf there is. If Boutte had more than 40 targets we might be looking at 650 yards in first 7 games .

Most likely Boutte might cross the 1000 yard season this year along with diggs .

I don't see how Williams or Chism will get a chance . Even for pop it's looking challenging to get passes .

And if run game improves expect lesser passes and targets from maye..

Wr we just don't need yet . Make sure we get some good safeties and cornerbacks who can prevent these long passes in first quarter.

That catch was so beyond ridiculous, it was reDonkeyKong!

I'll give Maye tons of credit for some near perfect throws, but that was NOT perfectly placed for a WR to catch. To reel that in and hang on to it in the momentum of the play is something everyone could see as amazing.

As others had said, Boutte was a potential first rounder before his injury. Also, I thought there were character concerns about him. So far the latter hasn't been an issue.

If only he could’ve transferred some of that knowledge to Javon Baker
