Kayshon Boutte, how does he do it?

I keep an eye on Kayshon when the camera gives me the opportunity to do so in games, he keeps getting open. He does not look like he is moving fast but he is constantly getting seperation. Is he just deceptively fast or just skilled in route running?
Also for the season, he is catching 80% of the balls that have come his way.
What impresses me the most is his demeanor post TDs, so professional, nothing over the top. Gives the ball to the refs and get back to focus. I think his recovery from the ankle injury took longer than most were willing to give him a chance. BB got a star WR in the making after all.

He survived having Troy Brown as his WR coach, and now has dramatically improved his route-running, his understanding of the offense, and his hands. He always had good hands, but it's definitely improved.

Pop Douglas seems to be emerging from the shadow of Troy Brown as his WR coach now too, just gotta get him to run the routes he's supposed to, and not just flatten them out if he feels like it.

Got get me started on Diggs, I may owe him an apology on how wrong I was about his signing. Dude has matured in football psychology.

He's turned himself into a good football player. Really excels on contested and difficult catches. He plays tough as well.

He was a stud at LSU before being hurt. I think I was one of only ones here that was telling people he wasn't going anywhere and outside of a breakdown in camp he was making the team. Everyone, from the Lazars, Perrys, Currans, etc were all saying he was going to get cut or at best traded.

It was pure comedic gold and it has borne out to be true. The dude is actually turning into a pretty special WR. He is playing himself out of being a poor mans Anquan Boldin as the weeks go on.

Boutte’s still just 23 years old, and with the ridiculous revolving door of offensive coordinators he’s experienced in both college and the NFL, he’s hardly had the chance to develop his potential. It’s exciting to see the chemistry he and Maye are building.

That's how I saw it. It looked to me like he was supposed to run a slant, and flattened the route out. Now, Pop's *instincts* I think were in the right place, because there was NOBODY over there, he would have walked in, but I think he flattened out the route. Kind of like he did against Pittsburgh on the 4th down. It was supposed to be a 3-yard route, and he shortened it for whatever reason.

I feel like he's close, and I feel like Josh is going to put him in situations where he can run to an area more often than a specific route. I don't know if Maye has the cache to tell a guy 'I want you to run exactly 6 yards' yet, but that's just a guess. Being around Diggs, just his route-running aura seems to be helping these guys a lot. I'd honestly forgotten what a master route-runner Diggs is. Every route is just textbook perfect. And on TOP of that, Diggs is great at improvising if the play breaks down.

His impact on that wide receiver room, I think, can't be understated, even if he didn't have the production to back it up - which he does.

Boutte have excellent chemistry with Maye: time to lock him up.

We got lucky in that 2023 Draft: Day 3 produced some good WR's that year ie...Puka Nacua - Boutte and Pop.

Playing around with stats on nfl.com and saw that Boutte leads the league in 1st down % on his catches....

Hes at 90%....wow. 1st down king.

I’ve really liked KB even from his rookie season. Those times when he failed to drag the second toe and Belichick dog housed him for it. He still had those balls caught and they were in big spots. He is a really good player and is one of the rare Patriots who has consistently improved.

Boutte was a top round talent before his injuries in college. He gets open, he beats man coverage, his hands are glue, makes elite catches, reliable in clutch moments, situational awareness.

I feel like he is really on the cusp of breaking into being a #1 receiver.

I loved the Boutte selection in the 2023 draft. He had been rated as a 1st round WR before his ankle injury. I really feel it took more than a year before he was 100% healthy, I feel it affected his 40 yard time. Even with a bum ankle, he ran a 4.5. I guarantee you that most defenders will tell you he runs faster than 4.5.

I’ll add that he runs crisp routes as well. He is truly the Pat’s deep threat, and obviously Drake has good chemistry with him. He also improved his hands. Had some drop issues in college, but has made some great catches in his career so far, so major improvement in that department.

He’s just a good receiver, plain and simple. He’s also proof you can find good receivers later in the draft. Hell, Diggs was a 5th round pick, look how great he’s been in his career.
