My recollections may have morphed over time, but I have a positive perception of Sam from earlier days on this board so I think he’s changed over the years, as we all have.
I don’t think I would have a positive view of anyone who had always shown intent to piss folks off. So I think this comment is intentionally aggressive, and perhaps more a reflection of the author more than the subject of his comment.
I’m concerned for Sam. I think his negativity is a reflection of his current mindset. I don’t recall that same degree of corrosive negativity from years ago, and again I don’t think I would have the positive regard for Sam that I do if his attitude was always so negative. Depression sucks, and there’s a lot going on these days that could make even optimists depressed.
I’m concerned for this board. We are here because we share a passion for the Patriots. We should be a community. Our passion should be a positive force, uniting us. We shouldn’t be cruel or hostile to each other. We can have fun poking and teasing each other but that shouldn’t be hurtful or harmful. When it becomes hurtful or harmful it’s destructive to the entire community. I fear we are crossing that line with Sam. He has recently been less negative and even a bit positive, and this seems aimed at killing that improvement.
I’m also concerned by the irony that discussion of what seems to possibly be a mental health issue with a player that’s been Sam’s binky is taking this turn. The negativity of some comments towards Sam is as bad or worse than any negativity Sam has expressed. He’s been negative about the Patriots. You all are being negative about Sam personally. That’s harmful and hurtful, and is going too far. I’ve seen hints of it in other interactions as well, this is just the most immediate and obvious. We all need to stop being mean to other Patriots fans.
