If it were up to you, we'd have no draft picks until 2034, have 26 WRs on the roster, and be 400 million over the cap.
You just made me spit up my drink.

Tommy you how I feel about certain positions...WR is very important.

I think we're gonna have to eat his dead money in the end.
His dead money in 2026 post June 1st is only $4.5M with a $12.5M in cap savings. He will be a cap cut.

To me, Safety is the one to upgrade of you have to choose one.

RB, Edge, Blocking TE would also be nice.

Interestingly Giardi said today that Ellis has been a “different player” the last few games. Now I need to go re-watch. Maybe LB isn’t as big an issue as I thought.

Names I’d keep in mind: Jerome Ford w/ the Browns (Vrabel was there last year) or Vrabel 3rd round draft pick in 23’ w/ the Titans, Tyjae Spears.

Latter two options are more realistic & would require less trade capital.

Tyrone Tracy (NYG)?

The obvious and quick answer is that was a nice punch out the other day

Of course, we'd all love studs at every WR position, but it's just not realistic. We're still paying the bills (sic) for several seasons of bad drafting. We've gone a few seasons not even thinking we had WR1 or WR2 so expecting a stud at WR3 isn't realistic right now, IMO.

AJ Brown is 27 and the contract we'd assume would be a major commitment (see below), along with whatever players or picks Philly would want.

Do we really want to make this big a commitment to him while we have so many other holes to fill?

Well, The Pats would only be responsible for the Option bonuses that they paid. The $20M in pro-rated signing bonus stays with Philly.

Any team trading for Brown only has to worry about the guaranteed salary for 2026. Which can't be $29M if his salary is only 1.3M with the 11.2M option bonus.

With so much money tied up in the "option" bonus, which could be done as a "Signing bonus" for amortization purposes", it's not a bad contract.

And all 26 WRs would be poisoning the locker room and trying to shoot their way out of town over not getting enough targets, while dropping most of the targets they get because they’re too diva to practice or attend team meetings. Except Olave who’s concussed again, for the past ten games.

I looked into it some... in 2026 his $29M is made up of:

$1.3M salary
$250K workout bonus
$27.45M option bonus

The first two count 100% in 2026 on the cap. The option bonus gets spread out through 2033 with all the void years, so $3,431,250 per year. So if we traded for him, his cap # this year would just be his prorated salary and his 2026 cap number would be $4,981,250 which is comically low.

If he's on the roster on the third day of 2026 - which he obviously would be - $4M of his 2027 compensation becomes guaranteed. So if they did cut him after 2026, add that onto the dead money. Per above, there'd still be $24,018,750 of unamortized 2026 option bonus, plus the added $4M of 2027 dead money and total hit would be $28,018,750.

If we traded for AJ Brown, it's most likely a 2 year commitment. So I broke down the numbers on 2026, now for 2027:

$1.345M salary
$250K workout bonus
$3,431,250 of amortization from his 2026 option bonus (already paid in 2026 but this is the cap charge)
$19.405M 2027 option bonus

The 2027 option bonus again gets prorated through 2033 so the annual charge would be $2,772,143 and the total cap number would be $7,798,392

Technically in 2028 he's under contract for only $1.39M salary and $250K workout bonus. So they could keep him for that as his only cash compensation and the cap hit would just be that plus the annual amortization of the signing bonus. Same thing in 2029 with a $1.434M salary. So cap hit on both years would be under $10M as the contract stands. We all know he won't play for that without being an absolute headache, so those probably just serve as leverage to renegotiate.

Ignoring 2025 since it's so inconsequential the salary we'd pick up, we'd be essentially committing to him for 2 years and $50M across 2026/2027 ($29M paid in 2026, $21M paid in 2027). But the cap hits would only total about $12.8M ($5.0M in 2026, $7.8M in 2027) so ahead before the 2028 season (where he'll be 31) they'd be deciding to extend him and keep him on the team or but the bullet and let him go and deal with about $37.2M in dead money. The deal is set up pretty well though to work out a new deal in 2028 though.

I am really glad you're not the GM.

Why? If 2 was the GM they would have Marvin Harrison Jr. instead of Drake Maye, they wouldn't be stuck with Will Campbell, and they wouldn't have Vrabel either because 2 wanted Ben Johnson. And they wouldn't have half the team because 2 would have signed Calvin Ridley, and traded for Tee Higgins and Brandon Aiyuk, so they wouldn't have had the money to sign any of their defenders. And they wouldn't have to worry about the next free agency because they would be 50 million over the cap.

On the bright side, however, they would have the first pick overall every year.

And they never would have landed Johnson, since Maye was a draw for him to come here. Can Harrison Jr throw deep, or is Jacoby still leading this revolutionary 1 QB, 10 WR offense?

Can we trade you Jordan Love for Drake Maye LOL?

not a damn chance!
I don't dislike Love, he makes some outstanding throws, but he's still too inconsistent imho.
Maye looks like a superstar in the making.

Im not sure what to make of Love. I think he is a good QB but I also think your QB has surpassed him already. Heck even that guy Dart for the Giants looks really good. I dont think Love is nearly as good as Rodgers or Favre.

He’s super boxy in recent years, though. He lined up deep about 60% of the time in 2021 and 2022, but only 25%ish 2023-2024 and 38% so far this season.

(Woodson 75%, Hawkins 80% this season)
