Felt like an offense that was still thinking to much. Probably should have played the ones a little more in preseason given new coaches and new offense.

I thought we had good pass rush and they didn't really run on us but it still felt like the controlled the line when they were on offense and they definitely controlled it when we were.

Maye kind of sucked. I don't think he gets through his reads well. Seemed like he missed Diggs open a few times and even when he runs he still seems a little hesitant to do it he's supposed to be faster and he just seemed slow.

I thought the oline would be better run blocking than pass blocking but I the opposite was true. I don't think they sucked but I don't think they were good either. Just meh.

Boutte was the best thing we had today. Henderson was OK. Pop was surprisingly not as involved as I expected. I guess our WRs still suck.
Unfortunately Maye didn't see a lot of open receivers today….but he didn’t always have a lot of time. Geno could make a sandwich back there he had so much time!

Drake has not progressed much. I was hoping for a leap but it is going to be baby steps. He rushed throws, stared down receivers, had bad footwork at times, and tried to throw into double and triple teams. On the positive side, Drake did look like he was trying to be a professional QB, stay in the pocket, read the field, etc., as opposed to the constant scrambling and the recklessness of last year. I think he will progress over the season but he is young and we have to be patient to see if he emerges.

Next game:

- Less Stevenson, more Henderson and Gibson.
- More Kyle Williams, less of Hollins. Pop’s seat getting warmer if he keeps underperforming.
There were several plays that basically killed drives because Stevenson just sucked. Slow, no power, dropped pass. Not sure what happened to him but he's just a JAG at this point. I don't think Henderson is ready for a bell cow workload but I'd probably give Stevenson's snaps to Gibson and make Stevenson the third option.

Also agreed regarding Kyle Williams, he will make mistakes but if you can get a couple chunk plays to him a game then that will change how the defense plays you. Hollins really did nothing. Pop Douglas had the nice TD but otherwise was very pedestrian, or even bad, at times. I bet you Chism is a game day active next week, if Douglas doesn't prove his mettle then Chism will start getting snaps.

We got beat by a better team. LV has all kinds of weapons, an above average QB, and a pretty stout D. Even so, if a handful of 50-50 plays go our way, we're right in this game: the missed chip shot FG, our missed 3rd & 1 around midfield, the 3rd & 1 we gave up late when Spillane filled the wrong hole, and a few others. I didn't like Vrabel's decision to punt with 4 minutes left 4th & 9 at midfield.

Remember..............."1st month of the season doesn't matter."

Yep, and arguably the most talented player on the team is cheering from the sideline.
I'm really curious why I keep seeing this take. I really am. He has like 3 picks in 20 games. He's injured over 30% of the time. What am i missing? I'm getting Josh gorden "the most talented player on the field" vibes, but at least Gordan had some mind blowing plays. Can we at least wait for him to be good first?

Agreed! The lions have only 3 points!!!!!!
I picked them to finish last in their division they lost a lot of good coaches.
Most of their big plays were schemed.

Back to us, it’s a lack of offensive line protection but also Maye do do any move in that pocket box, Brady and Rodgers are masterful at manipulating that box to move up and around the pocket, Maye scrambles out of it and then is throwing off platform, when it works its aww aspiring, but we have more inaccurate throws than Big plays Made.

The o line and Maye need to settle, getting explosive plays from Williams and Diggs, and moving Chism to be a security blanket.

I would like to see a formation with Diggs, Chism,Williams.

Line Williams and Henderson up on the same side with Chism.

Have Williams go deep
Down the sideline, Henderson to act like he’s running the post then cut his route on a timing pattern with Chism to be around 8 to 10 yds away from Henderson.
Gives the Defense a lot to think about, hopefully you get the safety to bite on Williams, and you have Henderson for a big completion or if that’s covered you have Chism for a completion.

You have Diggs on the left running a slant to the middle this will open the left up for Maye to have some space if he chooses to run.

Just a thought.

I didn’t see many formations putting stress on the defense.

Again same thing was plaguing us.

No fear from the Raiders we would take the top off and we didn’t give them much to think about.

Gordon was a drug addict with mental health issues. Not sure I see a correlation to Gonzo.

Great post …..very happy for Boutte ….how many times did they write him off? Odd man out?! Going to be traded? And all he does is deliver! #1 WR I believe last year and is getting better! Landry was awesome ! Pop does need to step up or Chism will take his playing time. I think Henderson has a lot more angles to him than Gibson….but Gibson is awesome in his own right. The guy who’s going to be sitting on the bench more may be Stephenson who was awful today. Maye deserves the benefit of the doubt right now and may take some time to get it together like Josh Allen or he may never be our franchise QB….time will tell but I think he deserves time to put it together…..not sure how much patience Vrabel will have with him if he doesn’t play well/consistently for the entire season……Secondary is still a work in progress and definitely struggle when Gonzalez is out…..Hope the kid can stay healthy.
I tried telling people he wasn't going anywhere when reporters and people here were saying he was a good as gone.

Today proved why he wasn't.

Fire Wolf and I will consider the season a success

I took our daughter for a quick visit to the aquarium after the game. I’m pretty sure that this grouper is a Pats fan.
Check out the look on his face.

That is the face of a fish who just watched the Pats fail to make any explosive plays on offense…again.

Yes - he did not look as good as I hoped/expected, but you can see McDaniels' fingerprints on him as far as the fundamentals. Like you said - stay in the pocket/step up in the pocket, go through your reads, don't play hero ball. The INT sucked but willing to give him some grace because of the pressure at the time and his POV probably caused him to miss the safety deep in the grouping. The fumble was kinda just a fluke play, it happens. He scrambled but he was almost always trying to scramble to find an open target to throw to, as opposed to just trying to go run upfield. But you can see he is still thinking too much. That should subside.

This.

It's a bigger problem, of course. But the lack of energy from the veterans was noticeable.

I'm ok with rookie mistakes by Campbell, Wilson, Borregales, even Maye to some extent. But the lack of intensity and drive from Stephenson, Douglas and others was inexcusable.

Turn it over to the rookies and let them grow. Get some energy and focus in there, demote whoever doesn't have it.
I thought vrable would have these guys psyched to play, thats what i saw in the tenn team so Im surprised at they're sluggishness

Easy eyeball test: Compare the amount of time the respective QB's had in the pocket.

What I saw a lot was Maye doing his first two reads and not finding something he liked, whereas Geno seemed to find something a lot more often.

Then we saw Maye have to roll out and try to make something work.

I don't know if guys weren't getting open or if Maye didn't feel he could make the throw, but my guess is that it's the former not the later.

Glad to read people are keeping their level heads one game into a three to five year contention rebuild.

Maye is playing like he is spending too much time thinking rather than executing.
Because he is. There is zero patience for NFL QBs to develop anymore. It's why you see guys like Mayfield, Darnold, and yes Geno Smith change teams a couple times before they actually mature into the role where it's not thinking through playing...it's just playing. Muscle memory. Instinctual. Finally realizing their talent.

The game is just as much (if not more) mental and experienced based as it is physical tools. The old saying is 100% true - talent alone is not enough to succeed.
