I find it interesting that several cuts have been made despite there are still 2 practices before the official cutdown date. Its funny that Vrabes and crew was like 2 more practices won't matter.

I will say, personally I was really hoping that Jordan Davis would fall to us. The Eagles picked him instead. He’s been a nice player, but hasn’t had the impact I thought he would to this point.
Yeah he was dominant for GA against SEC competition. I really thought he’s be special in the NFL.

I DO wonder if he’s carrying too much weight.

They were on his ass in college.

I have a cool pic closeup of my son’s hand giving Jordan 5 during the Dawg Walk.

My son was like 8 and the hand difference was absurd .

Definitely awkward.
Al Michaels is a total *******. If he thinks the guy has no talent (whether he’s right or wrong) he craps on them. He did that to Boomer years ago. And look at Boomer. He did quite well and is a class act.

Strange has looked oddly complacent. He's certainly worth more than Sow or T. Robinson as a backup, but he hasn't presented well of late. They'll probably keep 2 out of these last 8 guys. And I bet it's the first 2. (maybe Robinson & Conley stick on the PS)

Strange, Wallace, Jacobs, Lowe, Lindstrom, L. Robinson, Conley, Butler
I expect they’ll probably will keep the first four.

I think there'll be some trade action across the league this weekend, as teams try to secure rights to likely cut candidates that have some demand. Low value trades, like flipping a 6th in exchange for a 7th + the player.
I expect that’s a likely scenario for us to get our QB2 replacement.

There might also be teams trying to decide which of two candidates to keep as QB3 and which to cut, and would let us make an offer on the one that is a better fit here.

...as you might suspect, I have a soft spot for players named Ben But hey-ho, hopefully he goes to the squat, at least.

About the weight, it seems like he thinks so too. Says he dropped 25 pounds entering training camp and “is in the best shape of my life” (like they always say!). We’ll see if that works….

It's super entertaining. The Amazon Al 'IDGAF' Arc has been a treasured piece of sports broadcasting history. A special piece to a hall of fame career.

We'll sign a QB from among other team cuts to go on the practice squad

But this isn't the season in which one expects or even wants a seasoned NFL veteran on the team behind Maye.

Dobbs is non-threatening and if Maye goes down, has the team in a GREAT position to gain a Top Ten draft pick next year

And I think that's legit the game plan - this team isn't even considered a contender WITH Maye yet - they're sure not going to do that with Dobbs or whoever they pickup at this point - by design.

I’ll say this…

Having stood next to him his Jr year he was massive human.

I’m 6’3 ,weighed 260 at that time and the only time I’ve ever felt smaller was standing next to Kevin Nash/Psycho Sid as a kid.

Davis is gigantic.

I knew the Eagles were taking him.
I said it to all my eagle fan friends I was shocked when they didn’t take Barmore and I was surprised they took Hurts.
Not that them skipping on Barmore went bad for them they got maybe the best Guard in the NFL.
FWIW, I once met a Bearcats teammate of Connor Barwin. They were just as shocked as the rest of us that he didn't end up a Patriot.

If Maye goes down, #1 is in play legit.

But that would mean the Vrabel era is off to a very bad start also.

Cut downs are near at hand. What are our positional weaknesses and which team have an abundance of riches in those areas that might have to be pared and placed on waivers? We get to pick fourth in the waivers process.
Interestingly enough. I've posted before if you look around the league most teams beyond thier starters don't have what I would say great depth. For example Offensive lineman don't sub in and out like other positions.. we have some decent depth on the defensive line... Tonga, Pharms, famer, Jones, Ponder.. at wr although most are possession wrs.. we have depth there.. TE is thin, CB is deep.

Strange is understandable with the awful injury, but I don’t understand what happened to Sow. He was adequate as a pass blocker as a rookie, but then couldn’t pass block at all last season or again last night. There were some injuries in there, but nothing nearly as severe as what Strange had.
Based on a 5 minute Google search, it is a difficult injury to come back from, more like that from an Achilles tear than a ACL knee injury. One 2016 study reported that only 50% of NFL players returned to play after patellar tendon repair, and a different 2021 study showed that about 60% of those injured were able to return to something similar to their pre-injury performance. A study of NBA players (I know the athletic demands are much different) showed that most were able to return in one to two seasons after the injury, but with reduced playing time.

Strange seems to know how to play the LG position, but he hasn't come close to returning to his pre-injury form. Glass half full: could he still improve with more injury recovery time? I think the injury happened in Dec. of 2023, so it has been a little over a year and a half recovery so far. Given that there is no cap savings from cutting him, I wouldn't be too surprised to see them keep him on as an experienced back-up, that (very) arguably still has upside as the injury fully heals. Of course, the Patriots medical staff would know that better than anyone, if he is cut in the next few days then it would mean that they don't expect any significant performance improvement from the injury in the future.

Huh? After Tuesday, they’ll be practicing with 69 players. They now have 77 after cutting these 14. How does it affect their ability to practice in the interim?

Not that your point is wrong, but seeing as the starters have yet to practice together yet, let alone take snaps together, we really won't know what we've got until October (in this era of football, September might as well still be the preseason in terms of sorting out a team)

Case in point, this time last year we were all talking about the new depth at WR with Polk and Baker!

I think the OP was saying that they knew who to cut first without wanting to see them in any additional practices.

It’s a statement on what Vrabs and Co felt about the recently released that it wasn’t even let’s see them in another practice or two it’s a hard decision nope we don’t even need to waste reps on you you’re cut.
