Hollins As A Special Teamer

I don’t know about that. He sucked pretty bad in Vegas and Josh lost a job there.
I’m sure playing Hollins 94% of the snaps at wr and getting less than 700 yards is something he sees as a failure in that season.
Here he has better players to put out there.
Who do you want?

Bourne.
BIG WR – Stefon Diggs, Javon Baker,
FAST WR – Kyle Williams,
SLOT WR – Demario Douglas, Efton Chism,

Roster five for the cutdown to 53, Bourne might start on the injured list. I realize this ^ is likely to include Hollins though... expect six with Hollins added.

REPEAT TEN TIMES
If any of Chism, Polk or Baker is considered worth keeping by the team, he will make the 53. The status of Hollins is of almost no import, probably not more than the status of say Pettus.
Easy to say this ^

A lot harder to create a projected 53 man depth chart after cutdowns which includes 7 or 8 WR’s… many of them redundant and average.

Don’t tell me who you’re keeping at WR, tell me all the talented players you’re cutting at other positions to roster 7-8 WR’s?

I am not handing Hollins a spot
his salary is certainly not going to save him if the others out play him.
I can't pass judgement on Polk or Baker based on last year's results. if they out play Hollins, then Hollins will be cut.
Hollins was signed because of so much uncertainty on Polk, Boutte, Baker. but then Diggs was signed. Williams was drafted. Chism was signed. best players make the roster. 3-4 more weeks to determine.

Some 40% of those were likely run snaps where his blocking was of use. So statistics will be different than for a pass-only WR. And 30 first downs or TDs is a reasonable haul for WR3/4.
Josh's offense will likely be a lot of run/pass options, so that makes him more useful than a smaller guy that isn't as good a blocker.

To compete for a job, the signing Diggs, drafting Williams, and Boutte outplaying him has cost him.
Hollins isnt competing with Diggs. Diggs is the # 1 WR.

Williams is learning the ropes from Hollins who has done it.

Boutte outplaying Hollins. I would hope so. Hollins first day of live camp was last Friday.

Baker AND POLK were holding his fkn shoes with their IMPRESSIVE <100 TOTAL YDS over 17 games.

How is that different than any other WR?
25 1st downs or TDs (tds are first downspout can’t double count them) and only 31 receptions is terrible, probably close to league league worst for 721 snaps.

When Hollins was signed Diggs and Williams weren’t here.

Hollins sucked in Vegas? Mcdaniels got fired the next season when he brought Jagobi Meyers in. 90% of the offensive snaps for 800 yards and 8 TDs.

4 more TDs than Hollins and 100 more yards.

Then why did McDaniel's bring him here and lobby to pay him a substantial sum? Makes zero sense.

Polk and Baker aint them.

Hollins was never going to be the Pats # 1 WR at 32 years old.

Certainly not at what he is being paid. That's baloney WR money. Thunder would be breaking new ground for being a cheap ***.

He has a physical profile that no one else on the team does as a big bodied X receiver.

He's a core STer type of guy.

Familiarity with system.

Reputation for being a really good locker room guy and we're a team trying to build culture.

He's going to make the team and IDK why people would be upset about that. And there shouldn't be any issue keeping 5 other WRs with him considering we aren't exactly flush with talent all over and his STs ability lets you pull from another position vs. a normal position count.

Yes he sucked. Do you think a WR playing 94% of snaps getting 690 receiving yards is good?

McDaniels brought him here to compete to make the team. His contract is not substantial .

Diggs, Boutte, Douglas, Williams certainly are them

Bringing in 2 more WRs means there are 2 less WR spots.

He isn’t a core special teams guy, though, that’s one of the misconceptions. He plays about 20% of st snaps. That’s 1 unit.

If we are trying to build our culture around a guy who is on his 5th team in 5 years, we are screwed. If he has this incredible intangible that would elevate the entire team with his presence why didn’t any of the other 4 value that and keep him?

Why would he be better in special teams than a corner or safety or lb that would take his 20% of the snaps?

If he makes the team fine, but if we are relying on this guy as a huge part of the team we are screwed. He a 32 year old borderline JAG.

"Substantial Sum"?
Isn't he making 3.5?

The same for Meyers who only generated 100 yards more and 4 more TDs.

3.5 guaranteed for a guy you planned on cutting. Sounds crazy. There was no need to offer that money to start with.

You only list 4 WRs. Pats could very well carry 6.

15% more yards in 10% fewer snaps is a big difference.

They needed WRs. Do you honestly think 3.5 mill is automatic roster spot these days?

Only 4 are needed, the remaining 1 or 2 spots should be kick returners and young players with upside.
What’s a 32 year old inactive doing for you?

I have 6 WR's on my roster, not 7, not 8, but it really isn't difficult to make room for more. I just think that it's a bad idea. Vrabel may not be ready to give up on Polk or Baker.

MY SIX
Diggs, Douglas, Boutte, Williams, Hollins and EITHER Polk or Baker.

OFFENSE (25)
2 QB
4 RB
6 WR (including Hollins)
10 OL
2 TE
1 FB/3rd TE
==========
and yes, some folks would have one fewer RB and/or one fewer OL, freeing up 1-2 roster spots.
