Patriots Player Departure Joe Cardona released

Wow!!!

Looks like I am buying a Dugger jersey now and changing my profile pic…..

Now, there isn’t a single Patriot left from the 2018 SB team…… and I don’t even think there is a single Patriot on the roster who played with Brady….
Who played with Brady as a Patriot, no. [Carlton Davis played with him in Tampa.]

That's actually the biggest WTF draft pick gripe I have. Cardona is 33, consistent, healthy, and on the cheap. There was no need to draft a long snapper.

This move was more about eradicating older players.

No old players allowed.
1) He wasn't great last year.
2) No Sacred Cows.

He's only 33 and longsnapper isn't exactly the most demanding job. He could easily do it as long as kickers do which is like late 30's.
And now we have one who's 22 making half the money.

Does anyone know if Cardona is up there among the greatest LS ever? Ten years of consistent snaps, I don't know how many LS can top Cardona's career.

I didn't follow his stats or anything (Are there stats on long snappers??), but it seems to me over the past year or two he's had more than the usual number of screwups for the position, one in which perfection is nearly possible, frankly: not the most demanding role in the game, after all.. It was a great story, and he had a good run, but I think he had to go simply on merit. I don't think it's necessary to invoke any "culture building" voodoo to explain his departure. His job performance declined - as it does for everyone at some point in any area of endeavor - and now he's retired, probably quite happily.

I thought Cardona was solid as usual last year
he is 33 years old, and has had a couple of injuries the past few seasons.
the salary difference between Cardona and Ashby is minimal.
perhaps the parting was mutual? did Joe give the team a heads up prior to the draft, therefore Ashby was secured?
did Vrabel not like the team culture/locker room vibe the past couple of seasons, and is putting some of that on the vet leaders, which Joe was a captain.

He was the oldest guy on the team, they dealt with some blocked kicks last year, he earned 1.5M AAV for a long snapper… it’s not that deep.

Reminds me of BBs first year where he overturned the roster.
I can't remember how much turnover there was year one but year 2 he definitely made a bunch of changes. Huge free agent class that year.

The thing that has me a little nervous isn't the number going out but we all obviously know how many of the players BB kept that would have big contributions. I think 01 was so much of a combination of the key 90s guys combined with Bills free agents and then 2 Hall of Famers in Seymour and Brady putting them over the top on each side.

So yes clean house is part of the equation but you also need to be sure you're retaining the right guys too or it could take longer to rebuild.

Obviously not everything will go down the same and we just have to trust the process and decisions.

A bit more respectful too, I think,

Don’t throw him out with the rest of the “trash.”

Agree completely. They did him a solid, this gives him the rest of the offseason to find a new team, instead of waiting until August when everyone has their long snappers in place,

He was fine last year. He's a long snapper. Far from being a sacred cow.

Im fine w cutting him AFTER he's lost the battle in camp. Why take the risk giving the job to a rookie who hasn't earned it?

I’m sure they are confident in the kid they brought in, and wanted to give Cardona as much time as possible to hook on somewhere else.

I believe he's the last one with a ring.

End of an era.

We are on to Maye Vrabel Era.

Maybrel??
we should have went with new uniforms this year. Complete the change

Yea I know Vrabel is well-intentioned w/ Cardona and giving him time.

I can see moving on from Andrews, Bentley, etc. as they had medial concerns.

But the long -snapper? Hope the kid doesn't get injured in camp.

Me personally
I always want to see this current uniform
It represent’s Dominance
Back in the 90’s when we changed the logo and uniform
That uniform signified a losing culture
So it was a good time to try and establish a new look for the team

And yet Peppers is still here.
