You might be right. We’ll find out soon enough. To me, the Hollins signing was clear indicator that Vrabel felt like he needed a grown up, in terms of size, age, professionalism and maturity, in the WR room. To me, it’s clear that he didn’t think he had one.

I also think he is going be where exactly McDaniels wants on the field more often than anyone and will never complain or pout when he doesn’t get the ball.

I love how people are guaranteeing Hollins a spot. Guy's ONLY good year was with the Raiders. And that was 3 years ago.
Hollins might be a "team first" guy who can play STs, but if he get's outplayed, which is very possible, then what?

Yeah, they gave him decent guaranteed money, but it's not like they gave him $20M guaranteed.

It was mentioned that he played a lot of snaps for Buffalo. Think about this. He played 853 snaps with 358 being running plays. So, he had 50 targets on 495 passing downs.. Essentially 1 target every 10 passing downs.

That's 4th/5th WR numbers.

Diggs and Williams are the only locks, though I think that Pop is close and so is Boutte. Another team may offer up something to the Pats for one of them if that team sustains some injuries in TC. I think that Polk and Baker will have their work cut out for them. Especially if the Pats UDFA signings of Webb, Chism, and Blankumsee are true..

I wouldn't be so quick to write off Polk and Baker.

I want to see what they look like playing in a real offensive system with real coaching

X - Williams, Diggs, Hollins
Z - Diggs, Bourne, Boutte, Williams
Slot - Pop, Chism

I don’t see how Polk or Baker fit in. Bourne may be a cut candidate. I think Chism may sneak onto the roster.

What I hope for:

Diggs - Regains WR1 form for a couple years
Williams - Solid outside WR2 by next year
Douglas - Deadly in the slot now he's not the only weapon
Boutte - Solid depth
Hollins - Depth/ST ability
Chism - Edelman 2.0 in a couple years, flashes from the slot

Cut the dead weight:
Bourne
Polk
Baker

What I want:
Diggs
Douglas
Hollins
Williams
Boutte

What I think happens:
Diggs
Douglas
Hollins
Williams
Polk

Boutte traded, Bourne and Baker cut. Polk given another year because he's a 2nd rounder. What say you, patsfans? Any chance they carry 6 WR?
I think Boutte sticks. KB likely traded. Polk is nursing the shoulder still so maybe he gets IR'd to start the season. Also we have to factor in some of the UDFA WRs that may factor in as well. Diggs may start out on PUP as well possibly. There is really no benefits to trading Boutte who was a late round Pick himself and is developing into a nice player for Drake. Those are the guys you want to keep around.

He'll be cut in camp.
Pop, Boutte, diggs, Williams, Polk.. my guy KB gets moved... yeah I'm thinking Hollins may likely be a camp casualty cut, also keep an eye out for one of the UDFA signed as well. Also Diggs may start out on PUP?

Polk - IR for first 6-8 games
Diggs - Pup first 4 games.

Then depth chart is

Bourne
Douglas
Boutte
Williams
Hollins
Baker will be in too ..

Hollins/ Bourne will be evaluated and one of them could be a mid season trade / cut

If baker doesn't perform he gets cut mid season. If he does perform Polk continues to ride IR for rest of season.

Diggs starts around game 4 or 5...

Now can a UDFA wr challenge Baker.. absolutely. But baker has wr2 intangibles. So I expect him to up the ante and surprise us like boutte

Based on those training videos of Diggs I would like to think pup is not needed.

Also maybe I was a little harsh on Hollins last night but I don't think he was brought in to necessarily replace anyone but rather he brings a minimum set of skills that will need to be beat out in order to make it.

Let's just say Diggs is the only lock and then say Hollins is the minimum bar then we need 4 out several options to beat him out.

My opinion is Pop will do that easy and Williams as a rookie pretty much has spot so that's 3 more likely than Hollins already. I'd like to think that in order Boutte, Polk, Baker, or any UDFAs that we can find 2 better than Hollins.

Also always a possibility we find another wr along the way too.

So for now I can see putting Hollins on the roster ahead of some of these guys but by no means is he a lock or even necessarily likely to make it.

Good points. My thinking is around the same lines. On Boutte he's really intriguing becuase he's shown the ability to make plays on the outside. I believe he has a place here.. WR3 I'd say. Now of course as the season goes along this of course can all change especially if Williams does what I believe he will and be a game changer.

To your point on Hollins your right. He's a big bodied guy at 6"4 and can get deep that element alone will secure a spot for a WR. We have such a wonderful problem to have with to many guys now. Lol.. plus UDFA.. Vrabel really, really impressed me with his selections.

Wolf was saying that diggs will be limited this camp so he may start camp on pup like KB did last season. So with that being said I'm thinking..
Diggs
Pop
Boutte
Williams
Hollins
Polk
Baker* ??

1 - I think we definitely carry 6 WR this year
2 - I think everyone is underestimating Bourne - being a solid productive Vet, and THE emotional/character leader in that room.
3 - It seems like they'll have to pick 1 out of Boutte, Polk, Baker - great camp battle.
4 - what if Williams isn't able to catch on in time, or Diggs is too limited with ACL, and Boutte is better?

It will be interesting, and I'm sure 1 tc/preseason injury will determine the final roster

Polk nursing the should may be on IR to start the year, Baker if he can't make any headway likely gets cut. Boutte will only be better with the added competition. Boutte will be here and will continue to be a play maker.. he and Drake also have a great connection. Whatever vrable does on cut down day.. I fully expect Boutte to be on the roster.

We have to find room for my guy, Efton Chism.

Let's pump the brakes a little we have this many guys because most of them have either got hurt or failed to reach their potential.

I feel pretty good that we can find the right guys from this group to improve the room compared to the last few seasons but unless everything goes perfect with health and development we likely still need more before anyone is calling it a strength.

I've got Bourne way down on my depth chart like most here and possibly released or traded. The thing is, he's got the 2nd most career receiving yards on the team...by a lot. He's also had his most productive season with McDaniels (in 2021) and as of today he is just 29.

Exactly. Unless hes 2022 Diggs we still have a bunch of WR2/ 3s and 4s.

With guys like Williams the arrow is absolutely pointing upward.
