What I want:
Diggs
Douglas
Hollins
Williams
Boutte

What I think happens:

Diggs
Douglas
Hollins
Williams
Polk

Boutte traded, Bourne and Baker cut. Polk given another year because he's a 2nd rounder. What say you, patsfans? Any chance they carry 6 WR?

Maybe Polk will be a redshirt IR.

It’s almost inevitable that one or two players will be eliminated by training camp injuries. Either they’ll be unable to go, maybe IR or waived with injury designation, or they’ll just lose too much time to secure a roster slot. Those latter are prime PS candidates.

Kyle Williams is already better than Polk and Baker hopefully one of them reaches their potential. But with the selection it's obvious we're not depending on any of them. Love the competitive roster @WR this should light a fire under some guys @ss. Yeah I can't wait to stand up in my wheelchair: looking at you Javon Bakery.

With Bourne's productivity under McDaniels back in 2021, are we so certain that he's gone/a cut candidate? Mack I can see being more a STer and our WR5/6 type player. I feel like Bourne's the type of receiver McDaniels would try to keep around while Kyle develops/learns the system.

For me I put Pop and Diggs at the top.

I put Williams and Boutte in the next tier. Though the Boutte trade rumor gives me slight pause. And Williams being a rookie and just a 3rd rounder I wouldn't automatically assume his role yet but his roster spot is probably safe.

Then the there's the rest. I think just because he's a 2nd rounder Polk is probably on top and most likely to contribute. Bourne is still interesting as he is the most productive but also the oldest for him unless there's a bump back to old form now further removed from the acl then he's probably on the outside. Baker likewise probably has an uphill climb. I might be a little unfair to Hollins but I kind of see him more of a safety valve as he brings a known set of skills and level of play but I'd like to think of the guys above enough will be good enough that Hollins won't make it but they have to actually beat him out first.

Kind of a weird group in that they all still have a little something to their story where you don't want to completely write them off and I think we still need be cautiously pessimistic because none of these guys are perfect even Diggs is coming off injury and not a young guy anymore.

With a little bad luck we could still be screwed but I think there's enough bodies that things will sort themselves out and at least be better and have more upside than last year.

And if diggs starts the year on IR???

Hollins makes the team easily and will play a ton.

1. Diggs
2. Hollins
3. Williams
4. Douglas
5. Boutte
6. Bourne

(at least 1 will get injured so effectively these are our WR)

Polk and Baker will be cut.
Is there something about Hollins you know that you would like to enlighten us with.

Based on last year's production I'd put Williams ahead of him just as a rookie. And everyone but Bourne had more catches and yards. And Bourne was close even with 5 less games.

Gameday actives: Diggs, Williams, Douglas, Boutte, Hollins

Gameday inactive: Baker, Polk

7 seems like a lot but I think they can justify it because Hollins has STs value which allows him to take someone else’s roster spot at another position. Right now they only have 3 roster worthy RBs vs the usual 4, they don’t have a clear 3rd TE, and they don’t have a solid FB. They can create the roster spot if they think it’s too soon to give up on Polk or Baker.

I'll do the whole depth chart...

As of now my 53 (well... 57)

QB 3 Maye Dobbs Wooldridge(UDFA)
TE 3 Hooper Hunter DIPPRE(UDFA)
WR 7 Diggs Boutte Douglas Hollis Polk WILLIAMS CHISM(UDFA)
C 2 Bradburry WILSON
G 3 Onwenu Wes Strange
OT 5 Moses Lowe Wallace CAMPBELL BRYANT
RB 4 Stevenson Gibson HENDERSON LARISON(UDFA)
FB 1 Brock Lamar

28

DL 5 - Milton Barmore Pharms Tonga FARMER
EDGE 5 - Landry White Chaisson Jennings SWINSON
LB 4 - Spillaine Elliss Gibbens Tavai
CB 5 - Gonzo Davis M Jones Alex MINOR
S 6 - Dugger Peppers Epps Hawkins WOODSON MINKINS(UDFA)
Joker 1 - Mapu

26

STs 3

LS - Ashby
K - Borregales
P - Baringer

Clearly this is over the limit but to me there are the names to keep track of.

Bryant may be on the outside looking in if we decide not to carry 10 OL and Wilson may do back up guard duties before he starts at Center for us. Clearly some TE needs to be picked, but they didn't pick one up in UDFA... just the guys they signed before them. I think they may look for something else... or just don't care with the top 2.

EDIT: Sign some guys and right now it is hard to think Dippet isn't thr one who will be the last man standing.

WR is now a bit full with 7 notable names. There is another UDFA but lets be real, Chism is the one to watch of the guys they got at that spot. Polk is hated here for good reason, but can they cut the 37th overall pick from 2024 so fast? IDK. Bourne I think is already gone and may as well pack his bags as things stand. We aren't paying his contract. Pats should do the right thing and release him now. Question is can Chism knock Douglas off? Maybe... It won't be easy. Douglas isn't nothing. He has some value. I think he is slightly above JAG. Chism needs to prove he can be more. And he can be. If Polk absolutely tanks this entire preseason maybe he can be cut. But is is rare these days for such a high pick without medical or character issues to be cut without at least a 2nd year to try to develope him. Baker as this point is an after thought.

At RB Larison was a great signing... needed to fill that spot and they got an exciting guy to do it. And do they carry a full back? I think they will certainly consider it.

Maybe Mapu should be considered the 5th LB? They picked up some guys there, but not overly excited by them.

CB is interesting.. they have 11... maybe 12 if you count Mapu? Minkins is a very interesting signing. More interesting IMO than Minor who they drafted. Woodson also played CB. So maybe he slides more to CB with us to be the 5th guy there as needed? That will be a spot to watch, and also if they pick up anyone else.

Actually- glad you asked. I watched a lot of Buffalo’s games last year and- this is before the Pats signed him- he was the player that impressed me the most. This guy is soooo much better than people realize. One of my favorite players to watch last year.

7 is unnecessary. Need the depth elsewhere.

It isn’t rocket science- but last year’s stat sheet isn’t going to help you here. There isn’t a quality blocker in the WR room. You can’t have explosive runs or WR screens if there isn’t a WR who can block.

Vrabel looked at the roster and his WR group, and signed Hollins very quickly; he is guaranteed 3.5M. Vrabel clearly sees Hollins as an unselfish team first guy that he wants to create the team culture. Hollins is making the team unless he gets hurt or has a mental break in training camp.

I don't get cutting or trading Boutte, when he was better than both Polk and Baker. He proved last year that he's already an NFL caliber WR. Now, if they want to trade and/or cut Polk and/or Baker, that would make sense. Getting rid of Boutte doesn't make sense.

You think Hollins is number 2 on the depth chart too?

I don’t know what you mean by WR2. This isn’t fantasy football. Despite having very modest receiving numbers, Hollins was on the field for just over 2/3 of the Bills offensive snaps. I expect he will be on the field for at least 60% of the snaps. He might be 4th or 5th in production- but he will see a lot of snaps, because many times he will be blocking. Screens will go to his side of the field. He is going to be out there more than Pop on third and fourth and short.

He'll be cut in camp.
