NFL Draft Talk

Say the Cowboys call the Pats up and offer Parsons and their 1st for #4. I get Parsons needs a new contract but you’d have to consider it.
More like #4 and next years Patriots first rounder for Parsons.

Good thing we won game #17.

Good thing we won game #17.

This is it.

Imagine the haul we'd get if we had the number 1 pick, in a draft class with only one decent QB, which we don't need, and multiple teams who need a QB. Supply and demand leads to bidding war. I mean, the Titans, Browns and Giants would probably give us multiple firsts and we would probably still end up pick at 4 at worst. And we'd probably end up with a top 3 pick from them again next year because Cam Ward isn't that guy.

But no. We had to go win a meaningless game against a team who were trying to lose.

Why on earth would the cowboys do that?

They wouldn’t. Any team that wants Parsons will be giving up at least 2first round picks, not including a swap of picks. And it will likely cost more than that.

He’s gonna be good.
Not as good as Ashton “Walter Payton” Jeanty

But its obvious Campbell is the pick
Hope he can live up to the high expectations

We desperately need a tackle, he’s the right pick.

I agree with your overall point the only thing that really matters is the team improves, regardless of who gets drafted where, membou at 4 is the same player with the same potential drafted at 8, as long as he fixes the problem who gives af? The difference is membou drafted at 4 is just membou, membou drafted at 8 also adds a decent RB or DT or Edge or TE. Adding a high second round pick would be huge to making the team better and that’s what all the *****ing about draft slot is about. I hope and pray they find someone in that #8-10 range willing to come up because I would be completely happy with any of Campbell, Membou, Jeanty, or Warren in that spot with the extra ammo of a 2nd round pick. At least one of them should still be there depending on what spot we trade down to, though I would go no lower then 10 because we do need one of those guys, not the next tier of players. If they come out of this draft with 5 top 100 picks at LT, Edge, RB, TE, FS in that order of importance IMO that would do wonders to increase the base level of talent to the team.
I'm also of the mindset that it's really important to improve the team and increase the base level of talent and that it would be great if they could trade down in that #8-10 range to get valuable extra draft picks. I'd like to add a point that seems to receive less comments, the lower the draft pick, the lower the contract. In 2024, the #4 pick received $8.85mm per year and the #8 pick received $5.725mm per year. That's $3.125mm per year difference. If you don't think there is a big difference between talent at #4 and #8 and/or if you don't think GMs do a good job identifying talent then trading down does at least three good things - it gets you additional draft capital, it may allow a good player to fall to you, and it saves you cap space. Last point, people point to the fact that the Pats have lots of cap space so it doesn't matter however it's not how much cap space you have, it's how effectively you spend your cap space. The only way to win is to create surplus cap space (ie get more production out of your $255mm than the other teams). If you have an opportunity to trade down to #8-10 range, even if you don't get as much as a trade value chart suggest, I think you should take it. Even a small trade from #4 to #5 (if Jags want to g'tee Jeanty) where you pick up a 3rd or 4th this year (or better pick next year) and save some cap space would add expected surplus value.

Please Jeanty or Graham if we stay at the pick over Campbell. Campbell has a limited wingspan and not a dominant run blocker. If you are going for need (which is a mistake) then pick Membou. Membou can at least play another takle spot if it dosen't work out. At least Membou can move the line of scrimmage.

If Campbell turns out to be a Pro Bowl guard I’d be fine with that, I’m just not confident that it’s such a sure thing if he doesn’t work out at tackle. It would still represent a missed opportunity to get a better player at a different position. Interior linemen at #4 are poor bets unless they're the next John Hannah or Bruce Matthews and Campbell is not built like those guys.

I want a greater impact than “he might be a great guard”, a position that is easier to find quality help in than tackle. I remember when Brian Waters fell into our lap in 2011 after the Chiefs cut him in training camp. He became a Pro Bowl player for us that year at age 34. Can’t remember the last time a Pro Bowl OT was cut during training camp. I get that’s also sort of making the argument for the Campbell backers, but not exactly. I’m not against taking a LT, I’m for taking a LT that is less likely to be moved to guard.
Remember when the Miami Dolphins cut Leon Gray at the end of training camp?

Good times!

Campbell does not have the frame to play LT in the NFL. It's that simple. At what point would people be unwilling to look past this - if he had 31" arms? 28" arms? No arms at all? Genuinely baffled that anyone could be advocating for him at 4.

My scenario, Pat's trade down to 6 so the Raiders can pick Jeanty, then draft Campbell or Tet at 6.

I’d rather take Jeanty, Tet Warren over Campbell.
I don’t like all the hype Campbell is getting.
