Should Josh McDaniels be locked out of the draft room next week?

no...it's bb. i've hated his drafts going back to the browns in the nineties and i wasn't even a browns fan...always pats. but his teams were always better than his drafting. so i was nervous when he came to us and only liked a few of his first drafts (seymour) but the teams were good. ironically, the draft i did like with maroney and jackson ended up a bust so what do i know. of course the edelman pick and mccourty gronk draft were good but i was sketchy on them. then hightower and jones draft was good but as the years went by his drafts were just so hit or miss with mostly misses that it cost us and got him fired. long way of saying i'm hoping for carter or hunter to fall and glad it's vrabel picking.

edit...oops, of course, the greatest pick of all time right there with johnny u going in the ninth round to the steelers or something.
If you think his teams were better than his drafting wouldn’t that mean you are misjudging his drafting?

I came hear to see who's triggered by the thread title. The responses didn't disappoint.

While his moves in Denver where from a guy who was asking to get fired, Ownership could've blocked the trade of Jay Cutler. They didn't, so they can't put the full blame on him. The trade up for Tebow and Alphonso Smith were two other moves which contributed to his downfall.

Then you have the Raiders moves. In principle, going after Adams was a good move. But he wasn't the same player and they didn't have a QB. Then you have the following draft where you knew it was over when they picked Tyree Wilson 7th overall. Wow!
Getting rid of Cutler was smart. Thinking Tebow could play was moronic.

well, i think it's two fold. at first blush i didn't like his drafts but i would warm up to them esp. here and secondly he's a better coach and gameplanner than drafter. but to answer your question yeah a few times i did both positively and negatively.

Correction on my prior post: Cutler actually demanded a trade after they had their first meeting where McDaniels’ admitted to Cutler his intention was to trade for Matt Cassel. Cutler also didn’t like it how McDaniels was trying to give him the Brady treatment highly criticizing his game.

Drafting also isn’t about picking individual players it’s about building a winning team. If the end result works it’s hard to question the pieces of team building that created it because they all work together.

He was right to want to get rid of cutler.

I knew who you meant, bud. The Andelman thing was funny that's all. Dating yourself like the rest of us old effs if you go back to the Andelman days on EEI.
I couldn't STAND Eddie and his fkn stupid HotDog Safari.

Good luck with recovery!
Thanks! It is good to hear from a kind-hearted person. It is all too easy for polite discussions on social media to go off the rails. It is because of the anonymous nature of these forums lead to things being said that would not be said in person.

Anyway I was in the hospital for 3 days after spine surgery and I am still groggy so please excuse any worse-than-usual typos and gaffs. My phys therapist could not believe it when I said how much I enjoyed the hospital, but it was a great experience [except for the catheter but the less said about that, the better]. The staff at the hospital were great. My favorite nurse was an African woman from Kenya, but I also had fascinating conversations with people from the Philippines, Dominican Republic, Cameroon--> Cape Verde islands, Liberia, etc.

Get Well Soon Fred!

You got another week until draft. Studying up is great way to help pass the time while you recover.

Best wishes for a fast recovery Fred. Wish my hospital experience was as pleasant as yours. I spent 5 weeks in one and it was miserable, totally dehumanizing. This aging thing isn't for sissies. The best thing we can do is keep our sense of humor intact. Well that and bourbon.

McDaniels can stay. Wolf too, but only to hear what his suggestions are so that they can do the opposite of that instead.

Also best of luck on your recovery, Fred.

Wow, long stay! I thought it was great, but I did not have a roommate. I could imagine having a roommate who wanted to watch game shows at full volume all night long would be really hard to take. Unfortunately they did not have the NFL channel in the hospital, but I left my draft magazines out for everyone to see and luckily I met a large (ex-linebacker type) guy who was on the staff and loved to talk football and the draft. I should have left out some fishing magazines also.

I tried to talk to everyone who came in the room and ask them about their home country, what they were studying, their plans, etc. Most were more than willing talk to me, especially the graveyard shift people. It was interesting to note that all the DR women I talked to were sick of baseball. I don't know why they opened up to me.

The best gal I met was from Kenya. She was an experienced nurse and she really, really knew her stuff. She was wicked smart and answered all my questions, although I seemed to know more about Kenya than her.

I don’t know if he had any say when he was HC for the Broncos or Raiders but those were some epic level garbage drafts, almost like what the Patriots do in general

Because nobody could EVER criticize the immortal Jay Cutler's game.

Yup. Lock him out. It is too late in the game for the Patriots to play Mr. Nice Guy; they cannot afford another epic-level garbage draft. They are going to have a hard enough time to prevent Kraft from meddling and Wolf from screwing up his player evaluations.

What they should do is put him on Double Secret Probation; allow him to chose a pick at each round and write it down but pay no attention to his recommendations. Then at the end of the year, review his list and see if he is still making epic level garbage picks. Don't let him into the draft room until he can string together a few good drafts.

You’re not learning anything new about prospects on draft day, either you did your homework or not. Fewer voices and less noise is better.

And he made terrible personnel decisions with the Broncos and Raiders… horrible.
You are a BB desciple for sure
