Abdul Carter at 4#. Hunter has gone do we trade?

Titans take Ward, Browns take Sanders, Giants take Hunter would leave Carter at #4.
For the Patriots, everything hinges on Sanders. If he is taken by the Browns or Giants, then bingo, the Patriots have a shot at Carter or Hunter. If it is Carter, then trade down and get a blue-chip LT and WR; this would be ideal.

Why would we trade down if Carter was available at #4 ? Makes zero sense. Hunter & Carter are probably the 2 best players in the draft.
How can it not matter what is offered to move down. Last year, we were offered 3 firsts in trade for our #3 pick. Many though that we should have taken that pick and ending up with Penix or Nix and two additional firsts. We all hope that Maye works out. The team believed that we got a franchise QB, so it was worth it to not move down. If we didn't need a QB so badly, we would have traded down in a heartbeat, and probably for less.

Carter may indeed be the 2nd best player in this year's draft. Would you take 3 firsts to move down a few spots? Of course you would. But why? If Carter is one of the 2 best players, we shouldn't want to trade down UNLESS WE ARE PROVIDED ENOUGH VALUE.

If someone offered us their first-round pick in the top 10, their 2nd and a first next year, I would trade in a flash, presuming that I could get our starting LT with their first- round pick and an EDGE rusher or DT with my new second and still have a first left over.

Man, Carter might be the most overrated top 3 overall DE I've seen. Sure, he's amazingly athletic.
But he is not beefy enough to set the edge in the NFL, and he feasts on slow college Tackles by his one speed rush around the edge.
But after NFL QB's step up in the pocket and he whiffs around the back (a la Winovich) every snap, what do you have?
An nice cover WLB. Great, but is that a #4 value?
****ing this.

He's every good 1st round edge rusher you can get in the 20s in every first round, ever.

He ain't a top-5 guy. Not even close.

Looking more like Ward,Hunter, Sanders then the draft starts at 4.

Sure he is.

Saying he is just as good as other Edge defenders in the 1st rd is not accurate.

He drops to us we grab him with both hands.

Assuming the foot is fine the only immediate area of improvement is needs a bit more size/strength on his frame.

I don't follow college football enough to know enough about him as a player, but he is slightly bigger than Micah Parsons who he is most compared to. Parsons is used all over the defense in many ways rushing up the middle and on the edge. I am not saying he is in the same stratosphere as Parsons although some think he could be close, but Parson's size didn't hurt him in the NFL.

I agree Fred, I am no evaluator, but something about Carter (not just his foot injury) makes me wonder if drafting him is the right move, I'm all for trading down.

I've watched almost every Penn State game for two years (daughter goes there) and I don't think Carter and Parsons are comparable.

I see Abdul Carter's ceiling as Von Miller. He'll stay on the edge. Maybe they might move him inside in a NASCAR type situation.

Parsons is Luke Kuechly with pass rush skills. He rushes from all over.

would you take Carter or trade the pick?

I'd take him at 4 and trade up to nab an OT late in the 1st rd. I think hes that special. Folks disagree and thats fine. Time will tell.

Landry is a stop-gap and a guy Carter can learn from.

It'll also push Keion White to get his **** together.

He’s the player I have had the hardest time figuring out. Is he Micah Parsons lite, or is he going to be an average edge player in the NFL? I haven’t been able to figure it out.

Von Miller is still a likely HOFer. I'll take it.

Carter and Miller are the same size. Miller's size didn't stop him from being an edge rusher or setting the edge.

Who are the blue chip WR or LT prospects though? By most accounts the top guys at those spots are a notch below blue chip. Johad Campbell (LB), Jeanty (RB), Warren (TE) seem to be the "blue chip" prospects after Carter/Hunter, but lower positional value of course.

How the **** is Carter falling to the Pats? Seriously people....
Not likely but Giants are going to have to pay Burns and Thibodeaux so position is not an area of need, Sanders or a trade down makes more sense for their needs.
Hard to see them passing up Carter though since he's ranked as 1 of the 2 blue chip guys in the draft.
I think the outside the box wild card is Jeanty to the Giants.
I don't think they want Sanders, but Jeanty make sense and is a bigger need for them than Carter. Nobody seems to be talking Giants and Jeanty though so it likely going to be Carter if Hunter is gone to Browns.

There is no "Blue Chip" LT in this draft (there was last draft in Joe Alt). And, Hunter might end up being a "Blue Chip " WR, but there's no such WR (like Calvin Johnson or Julio Jones) at the WR position. If there was a Joe Alt, Joe Thomas, or Jonathan Ogden caliber OT (especially LT) in this draft, and he was there at #4 and we didn't take him, that would be malpractice. Because of such a need at LT, if there were such a caliber of one in this draft, we'd absolutely take such a LT, and yes, before Hunter or Carter.

Ugh, worst case scenario is if Carter and Hunter are gone. If this is the case, no one is going to want to trade up with the Patriots unless the offer is way out of line....but this is not the end of the world since Campbell would not be a disaster and might be pretty darn good. But it sure does pour cold water on all the draftnics out there like me...

I’d almost go against everything I believe and draft Tet or Jeanty at 4 just to try to strike gold on a playmaker.
