Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

Why do you always resort to calling people fools and ignorant when someone disagrees with you? The person that looks small and ridiculous is you. Have the day you deserve.

Actual question, what type of offense do you run in your local league? I am just curious and do you have any inspirations as a OC?
Because they are. It has nothing to do with whether they agree or disagree with me. If something is stupid, I call it out. Thats all. I am having a fantastic day and don't worry about the little snowflakes who can't handle getting their feelings hurt with a dose of reality. Would you like a tissue?

The triple-option base play out of the Flexbone. I ran it either up the Midline, outside using the Speed Option, or against the flow with the Counter. Its a derivative of the old Wishbone. It has a fullback and two running backs set in the backfield directly behind the quarterback. The two backs flex out into the slot.

We know its' Drake Maye's Team but players get injured.
Yeah, but until Drake gets injured (note, until not if) having a backup who thinks he’s good enough to start is a volatile situation.

This was defusing a ticking time bomb in locker room dynamics.

Milton is not better than Maye at anything. The team and the rest of the league agrees with me hence "only" a 5th round pick in return.
Reportedly Milton’s agent was pushing for an open QB competition. If Milton is not better than Mayecat anything why not just do it, and put him back in his place riding the pine?

Unless…

Coaching staff does know more than we do, from seeing them both every day.

Maybe they know Maye wouldn’t easily eclipse Milton?

So, they bribe Dallas to take him off their hands. Problem solved.

Could be a missed opportunity. Steel sharpens steel.

My biggest concern going into the season is Maye continues to be careless with the ball which was a concern coming out of UNC.
Second biggest concern. Head shots from failing to slide are a bigger concern, because they have longer lasting consequences.

What's the downside of NOT making this trade? Let's say he plays poorly in the preseason and gets cut, never gets in a game again or if he does he plays poorly and he never as any trade value again. All you ever miss out in that scenario is moving up from the top of the 7th to the bottom of the 5th. That's the value you potentially squander, and it's pretty minimal. Not nothing, but minimal.

IMO, if they saw any developmental potential whatsoever with him, it just doesn't make sense to do this deal. What if Maye regresses terribly. What if he gets hurt and misses significant time or just isn't the same anymore. What if there's things on tape the league catches that he can't overcome. Don't get me wrong, I'm high on Maye but you just never know 100%. I'm skeptical that in those scenarios Milton would ever show in that opportunity that he's the guy, but again you can never be 100% certain. He clearly has physical talent. I just wouldn't have given up on developing him for such marginal value. Especially with my expectation that they'll just end up drafting someone else to fill the same role probably around the same draft slot value they got back in this deal.
The real downside of keeping Milton would be if he comes into camp and plays lights out while Maye is flat, or worse gets concussed because **** happens. And then there’s a mess because Maye is the made man and that scenario just upset the apple cart.

Of course another downside scenario is trading Milton and then having all the rest of that happen…

I think those are definitely factors. Vrabel doesn’t want to stir up any controversy by declaring an open competition, as that would appear to be a vote of no confidence on the guy they just drafted 3rd overall last year. Vrabel also may not want to go with the charade of having Milton think he’s ready to be the Patriots starting QB over Maye based off of one glorified preseason game against the Bills. Milton’s camp thought differently, and that’s why he got moved now at a minimal return. Milton was closer to being cut than he was to being the next Patriots QB1.

Reports are that he's a pain in ass and feels he should be starting. They are saying the room is worse than when Zappe was there. This could be true, but I still think Bob wanted him gone after week 18.
Who is “they” and where were they saying that? I’ve seen that he thought he should be starting, but that’s to be expected from any backup with gumption.

@Salsalife linked an article above. Video also talks about it.

Ok, so “they” are Felger and Mazz. So, no credible sources. That video shows they took Reiss’s “QB room dynamics” and immediately translated it to “Milton is a total *******” with no supporting evidence or intermediate reasoning. And then they rambled on about the Zappe QB controversy with nothing to link any of it to Milton, but you took that as saying the QB room is worse now than when Zappe and Corky were at odds? You’ve been listening to F&M too much, that’s making **** up just like they do.

Now Maye needs to prove that on the field. Like, you're right, unless you're letting him compete for the starting job, you need to move him. There's nothing wrong with Milton thinking Maye isn't better than him, because let's be honest, he hasn't shown that he is yet a) and b) you'd much rather have someone feel that way, than say 'I'm happy to hold a surface tablet for 10 years'

Because in all honesty, he hasn't yet. Maye projects like he will, but dealing in objective reality instead of our collective fandom feefees will serve us well going forward.

This is a big-boy decision from Vrabel. People are going to forget and move on from it, but this is one he didn't have to make now - and he did, so he'd better be right.
Fair point. Maye better be “him”. Can start by cutting down the INT’s.

And learning to avoid head shots. That worries me more than INTs. You’ve got to throw a lot of INTs to involuntarily end your career, but one hit to the head could do it, Tua notwithstanding.

Open QB competition would have been crazy, what sort of message does that send out to not only Maye, but the whole team. Personally I'm pleased he has gone.

But do the Patriots really think that they can get a better backup QB for a 5th compensatory pick? Good luck with that.

Personally I think it was a stoooopid, idiotic Patriots, err Kraft, move--why dump a proven, capable backup QB for the uncertainty of a late 5th? It is insane...unless Milton was a whiny b1tch in the locker room because he was not playing enough...
Can we stop with this nonsense?

Milton wasn’t the backup QB last year and he wasn’t gonna be the backup QB this year either.

The amount of outrage about trading a 3rd string QB is crazy.

I'm a little bummed as he was a good prospect. I get it though and good for him.
Was he?

Fans see a little bit of shiny and they go crazy. See Malik Cunningham. Same thing happened here when he left for Balitmore.

Dude played so well it cost us the #1 overall pick.
We gained nothing here…net waste of a 6th round pick.
Well it depends how you view things. That 5th round pick has still a little more value than the pick we use to draft him. We had a huge gap between our 5ths and 7ths round draft pick. And if that pick is used on a package to move up a get a better player it will be worth it in my opinion.

the only one who look stupid, and got his feeling hurt is you. It’s clear that you couldn’t handle someone questioning your knowledge.

I love guys like you who feels the need to throw on a fan forum that they are coaches to legitimize their opinion. Clearly the behavior of someone highly insecure.

From the Athletic and for our all-knowing resident, OC.

How they went about changing EP are highlighted

McDaniels started the meetings by explaining his verbiage for various formations and concepts. Then, he invited coaches to collaborate on different terminology. Maybe more importantly, they talked about ways to teach the various concepts given the wide background of this staff.

Passing game coordinator Thomas Brown spent three years with Sean McVay as the basis for his system. Wide receivers coach Todd Downing comes from the Shanahan tree after working with Kevin Stefanski and Robert Saleh. Quarterbacks coach Asthon Grant spent his five years in the NFL under Stefanski. Given that, there are a lot of schemes and styles to mesh together.

“So our language has been refined a little bit between last year with the time that I had and then this spring with the coaches,” McDaniels said. “I think that’s really getting streamlined. It’s been great to have their perspective on it. Just being in the same type of language for my entire career has been good, and probably in some ways, it’s been a little different than most coaches.”

Of course, it’s not without risk. A blended offense without any fundamental or core beliefs isn’t usually effective. But if done right, this Patriots offense should be able to take from the best parts of the McVay and Shanahan schemes while incorporating them with what McDaniels has used well before. And McDaniels’ willingness to do that stands out to his new aides.

Again, you can choose to be ignorant if you want. You are a fool if you think all of a sudden Josh stopped using EP. Just stop the idiocy already. Even today he talked about how Drake has to learn his language. Josh didn't change. The more you type, the more ridiculous you look
Wrong. Josh did not say that.

In it's purest form, EP is terminology, style, protections, routes, and QB responsibility. That is what differentiates it from other offenses.

Vrabel even said it's a foundation but not the same. Its evolved. Exactly what Ben Johnson did to EP. In order to stay current, Josh did the same thing.

Your knowledge is dated. I'm done trying to get you to get with the times. Do your own reading.

I wonder what McAdoo thinks.
