Now that we have Diggs, should we drop the pursuit of Brandon Aiyuk?

Cousins,
Sorry just a Asiago Cheese bagel toasted with butter and a hot chocolate for a quick breakfast.

Here is the scenario:
To me, signing someone of Diggs' stature was partly to have the have other Teams game plan. We had NO ONE in 2024. so I propose the following "would-ya". ......

Brandon Aiuk is only 27 He was never a speed merchant at 4.5(see Jerry Rice). The Diggs signing took a lot of gulping and necktie loosening. But you got there even if he is not the perfect suspect. If this was purely Eliot's doing it would have never happened. We all can agree to that.

We've been doing the dance with John Lynch for over a year on Aiuk, We now have the advantage and still over $70mm in CAP.. I watched an interesting Podcast from Frisco. They are still for this trade but with terms that might be a winner for the Psts. Imagine a healthy Diggs and Aiuk on the outside?

There idea of a fair trade was Aiuk for our three 7th rounders (they need numbers to build) plus Baker (.....don't ask). Why? This move saves Jed York $110,000,000 that's why.

Aiuk might not be ready until November it's true but yiu always buy low. Worse case scenario is he heals and we use him for wampum in a trade Cousins.

Would ya?

If the 49ers truly want to get rid of his contract, they will cave. With that said, I'd avoid Aiyuk like the plague.

I'm tempted Rain: getting Aiyuk too would be a very Bold move by us. I think Aiyuk and Diggs are similar players torn ACL's notwithstanding.

considering his cap hit is 11 and 16 for the next 2 years with 9M in dead money after... i would certainly consider it for the right pick. For a 4th or lower? Hell yeah i would. Why not? They can afford it. They still need to sign an LT after and the cash would be tight after such a trade... but i'd do it and then find the money later. They have a few moves they can do to open up cap space too.. Cutting Bourne, rework/extend/cut Bentley, That could open up about 9M if need be. After that you need to get more creative though.

No.

There's still money for another big move. Doesn't have to be Aiyuk but I still hope they come up with something maybe even at LT.

Not on account of Diggs. He's another Z, albeit our obvious best one and hugely needed improvement there. Aiyuk is an X, which we still need.

If they were pursuing him before, they still should be. But there valid reasons for them not to have been and those still apply to.

The cap sites don’t play nice with these pre-prorated bonuses that some teams are using now. If he’s traded before the bonus is paid, his new team would have him for $6.6M in 2025, $11.6M in 2026, and then have $33.7M dead money.

It's just too big of a risk unless the 49ers are willing to part with a low round draft pick. Even then as an Owner I don't think I'd want to do it. Josh McDaniels would have to have really sell me on how he's going to use him. I'm just not a huge fan of his. I've watched plenty of 49ers games and there's really nothing about his game that wow's you. Lastly, him coming to camp in awful shape after getting signed is a red flag.

No they're cutting him

No they're cutting him
Can they actually cut him? AFAIK his option bonuses are guaranteed, their big drive to trade him ASAP is because if he's traded before those bonuses hit then they become the responsibility of the acquiring team. If they can't trade him then they'd have a huge dead cap hit cutting him.

Not for a day 2 pick. I’ll happily take him if he’s released.

Always keep your options open.

Probably more likely we sign one of the other free agents.

A WR room with Aiyuk, Diggs, and Hunter is A OK with me. Rest of the draft can be spent on the OL.

We can sign aiyuk and his contract for their first rounder . So essentially a salary dump for their first rounder.

They already did.

It doesn't look like anybody wants him because he could return around mid season. It's a massive cap hit it if he's cut, so I see one of two things happening. One, the 49ers do an NBA style trade and they throw in a 3rd rounder just to do a salary dump. The other is that they are stuck with him.

Yeah, when they get really desperate in a few days there will be an interesting buy low opportunity. Aiyuk and SF’s 4th in exchange for NE’s 4th. Pretty much a nothing trade picks-wise but SF gets out of the contract.
