Brandon Aiyuk Roster Bonus Deadline - April 1st [Merged with Aiyuk watch is almost over]

Isiah Bond for explosiveness learning behind Diggs in the second makes some sense to me, if we go OT or Jeanty in the first.

Sorry Brandon…the ship has sailed. Best of luck in Cleveland. The good news is you get one game in Pittsburgh per year.

So are we out on Aiyuk now?? I'm greedy and would like both.

So we are rapidly coming up on the likely deadline for an Aiyuk trade - April 1st. The reason is that on that day his $22.8m guarantee kicks in.

There are clear signs that the 49ers want to trade him. The Patriots were interested last year before he signed his massive extension and tore his ACL. So he's currently damaged goods, but he is still young (26) unlike all the FA WRs.

His contract is expensive, but if he regains his agility and speed after the injury it is pretty much in line (around $28m/yr) with other elite WRs. Last year he didn't want to come here, but we wouldn't actually have to renegotiate his contract unless we wanted to - we'd get 3 years with an option to cancel after 2 years.

This chart indicates just how good he was - he had absolutely elite separation against man coverage:

Likely we'd have to give up a 3rd (the one we got for Judon trade), and maybe SF would eat part of the contract in view of the injury. Folks in SF want him gone - they are moving on from their massive spending spree.

He likely wouldn't be ready to play until after the season starts, and obviously there is the risk that he doesn't fully recover from the injury.

My guess is that the Diggs visit and departure may relate to the possibility of this trade. If no trade eventuates, then we make an offer to Diggs.
Now that we signed Diggs, I think we will likely play the waiting game and see if he gets cut before offering him a deal in free agency.

Diggs plus Aiyuk would be a nice WR room but I doubt we want two guys coming off ACL at the same time. Aiyuk we can probably get for less money now because of that ACL.

I'm thinking Aiyuk only gets a 5th round pick at best now because of that massive contract and ACL injury. More likely he will be cut to avoid the roster bonus.

I'm going out on a Limb here: but if we get Aiyuk also I think SB all the way. A Team can turn it around very quickly the Texans and Commanders proved that. The Bills and Pats are battling for the AFC East.

You are completely and utterly ridiculous. You are the gem who gets quoted on other forums so other teams can laugh at us. Its frikin embarrassing.

I'm blushing because I love Diva WR's: I'm holding our Pickens or Aiyuk. Don't be a **** gob.

we got one top WR on the market, now it's draft and develop, and trying to save Polk.

Signing 2 or more high profile WRs never worked out.

Brandon Aiyuk is just 27 and his ceiling as a player is Stefon Diggs. IF we get Aiyuk we are seriously Contending in the AFC with good health of course. Just the possibility of Diggs - Aiyuk - Pop Douglas - Boutte and maybe two from the rest. That's a Top 10 WR Room right there a far cry from what we have become accustomed to.

Kyle Williams have a sick tape: he makes everybody look like they're running in mud. I would take him on Trade down in the late Second: I don't think he makes it to the Third Round. His Route tree needs work but he gives you a lot to work with.

With Aiyuk, and pending what happens in the draft, we are probably a flawed contender at best. The talent on the team, as currently constructed, is markedly better than last season but is completely unproven with notable gaps. Kudos for the optimism (****, we all miss being optimistic) but calls for a SB based on this roster reminds me of that Philly "Dream Team" that didn't even make the playoffs. Let's see how the this collection of talent comes together as a team.

After the Diggs signing someone like Aiyuk might, in all honesty, make even more sense now. Douglas and Boutte were the top 2 WRs last year and Douglas is a slot. Boutte is a Z that can kind of play the X. Diggs is another guy who's more of a Z. Someone like Aiyuk, who's been a true X receiver is like the final piece to round out the depth chart with well-fitting pieces. It'd be kind of a concern having two guys coming off ACL injury, but I'd probably be ok with it considering where we are as a team.

I expect to be better next year and, hopefully, stay in the WC hunt late in the year. I'm still not optimistic about this team because the top of their roster is still terrible so I expect them to lose a lot of close games because they simply lack guys who are going to make those 1-2 players you need. I also think that many are overstating how good Maye is right now. There's a difference between judging a QB through the perspective of acknowledging he's a young QB and looking for signs to be optimistic about his career vs. a more critical view of if the guy is ready to win games right now. Obviously on the former criteria Maye looked awesome last year but on the latter he still didn't look like a winning QB to me yet. So I think many are overstating our turnaround potential, IMO.

Bringing that back to having 2 WRs off ACL tears, the reason our team status makes me ok with it is because for this year I'm still more about bringing stability/respectability to the depth chart. Even in reduced states due to injury recovery, they'd give you that. And I'm ok waiting the normal year for them to get all the way back to normal because that's the year I expect us to really push for the playoffs anyway.

Have to believe the DIggs signing significantly reduced any interest they might previously have had in Aiyuk. At this point, with Hunter still a possibility in the draft, they aren't going to make any more moves on WR.

And miss out on the “Battle of the ACL’s”??!!
