Is there an option to remove the big box at the top (latest local headlines, current popular discussions, etc) so that scrolling down to see the top posts isn't necessary?

That went away days ago for me. Wondered what caused it. Now I’m wondering if it was related to something Ian did setting up for these changes.

You might have had it set that way previously. I noticed the other day it wasn't working ahead of this and fixed it, so that's probably why

@Ian, appreciate all the work you’ve done here. I’m on iPad, and there have been numerous times where the hyperlinks stop working. I need to refresh the page (often several times) to get them to work again. One common element is that the menu bar in the top right doesn’t appear in those instances (where it shows the background toggle, message icon, alert icon, my username and search bar). When that menu bar appears, the links and buttons work again.

And my apologies if I’m using the wrong terms, computer programming is not my expertise.

I've had to run a few resource-intensive processes a couple of times in the last hour or two, so I'm not sure if the timing of that coincided with when you had the issues. Still have a couple of things I noticed I need to streamline performance-wise after setting this up, but I'll get that done.

I turned on my own iPad, and I did notice the thing with the pinned posts being an issue on the iPad, which @Boomer B also pointed out, so I'll work on that as well but probably won't get it done until tomorrow because I have to head off soon. But I'll definitely get it sorted.

Wow - it looks really good. In the 17 years or so I have been around (damn it's been a long time...), this is the very first redesign I have loved from day 1 that I can think of. Usually takes me some time to get used to it.

It's only available on a full-width browser window. If you've zoomed in, you might not be able to see it.

I am working on adding the notifications and the bookmark links to the slideout menu both for people on a slightly smaller browser, as well as for a tablet/mobile. Just didn't quite get around to it and wanted you guys to be able to see and use it.

This was one of those things that as I started it, became "I should add this" - and then after adding that, "if I do that, I need to do this ... " and it sort of dominoed from there. But I'll get that tweaked and get that stuff added for you.

Doesn't show up full screen on either Safari or Chrome on my Mac.

Good morning,

Ran into a handful of things I had to fix, but we're now good. A few things:

This new layout was themed around the team's color styles based on home/away, which you can now toggle between:



The "Light" and "Dark" is pretty self-explanatory, as you can toggle back and forth between the two. The "System" is tied to your PC. So if you use a dark theme, or your system automatically changes based on the time of day, the software will detect that and will be synced with it if you choose this setting.

There's a new left hand menu that's available:



This gives you quick access to checking your bookmarks, along with being able to see who you're following, who you're ignoring, threads you're ignoring, people you have on a global forum mute/blocked list, etc. A lot of this stuff, particularly the bookmarks, are buried in the user panel and not readily available. They're now a little easier to access with this.

Below that are the avatar/signature/preferences. Again, these are buried in the panel and I get this question a fair amount when people are trying to set up their accounts. So they're now easier to access.

Another note: Not sure if you noticed this, but you can "Pin" posts to your sidebar:

This is located on the bottom right of every post, and you have up to six:


This is another feature I'm not sure people are using, but that's been touched up a little, although I left the display itself the same.

The slideout menu has been updated as well. It's organized a lot better and a little easier to find things. The only thing I do have to add back in is the quick link to the "Help Desk", but I'll do that in a bit and I'll update this if anything else is modified.

But for now, feel free to test things out and obviously report any issues here.

I know there’s an issue with many people who are having a problem with the pin bar on the right getting in the way of things. I’ve disabled it for now, and I’ll put it back up after I troubleshoot it.

Just checked in and thought things were broken on my end lol then remembered u letting us know. Must say I’m impressed with the theme so far. Just have to get use to where what is. Everyone needs to appreciate the work put into this because it’s not as easy as choosing a color and hitting save. Again, kudos Ian. Though I think it would be wildly amusing if the team went in some totally opposite color scheme….

The forum has room on both sides for the two sidebars, so that's probably why it appears that way. I have to fix an issue with the right sidebar, and I'm hoping to have more time for that tomorrow.

I can't take credit for the theme switching ability - that's part of the newest version of the software. But I did pick all the colors and it's been challenging given that they mixed them with a generic design and it was a little tougher having to make manual changes when the default settings didn't necessarily fit what I was going for. But everyone did an a great job of pointing out all the bugs, which has been extremely helpful. Got a lot fixed earlier today thanks to that.

Don’t know what you’ve fixed, but earlier I had lots of problems with my iPad. Couldn’t even respond here to tell you about them. Biggest problem was trying to click to add an emoticon and instead getting focus on a totally different page element. Screenshot here was a click on the emoticon menu icon, and look where the focus landed!

Yeah, there's a bug affecting iPads and Macs. I disabled the right pinned bar until I can troubleshoot it tomorrow, but it should have solved your issue because it took care of it when I tested it on my iPad. But I'll get it sorted in the morning.

Thanks. Ive seen some improvement. But I’ve still been having problems having a click (tap) ignored. Sometimes I can’t get any control in the content to respond. A few minutes ago I tried to reply in a thread and could not get the reply button to respond, nor any others on that thread. Hit the clockwise circular arrow in the address bar to reload the entire page and everything worked normally. Other times even reloading the page doesn’t change behavior at all. I’m suspicious of everyth7ng including my old iPad hardware, iPadOS, all the libraries, sunspots and phase of the moon. Good luck getting it debugged. Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help.

And thanks for your hard work making this one of the best places to hang out on the entire ‘net! Wish Zuck were half as good!
