Travis Hunter again

If Hunter is still on the board at 4# and he would prefer to be traded as a CB, would the Patriots still want him after signing Carlton Davis III. Or trade down and get a good haul from a team gagging to sign him?.

He’s mentioned playing with Drake before and also doesn’t seem to care which side he focuses if he’s limited to one.

If CB was the only option, I’d still take him unless it was a very generous trade down. He’s a blue chip talent.

It's an interesting though.

First thought is yes, sell the pick off to the highest bidder. The signing of Davis means we have 2 quality corners. There is depth in the 2nd or 3rd if we want to build depth. We don't need to build depth at 4.

The team has too glaring of holes at LT and WR to take a 3rd corner at #4.

But as you think more, Davis isn't the most durable. Neither is Jones. Even Gonzalez has missed some time. If he's not seeing the field for 95% of the defensive snaps, then that frees him up for more ER reps. So even though he's a CB, you might get 25 snaps out of him at WR.

The problem there is, he's splitting his time evenly at both spots, which limits his development at 1.

I think he should be a corner that plays a few WR snaps. That maximizes his value.

But for the Patriots, I think he's drafted as a WR. Just a glaring need for the team.

So if he demands to play corner, I think i stick with the initial thought of selling the pick off. Someone would move up for him.

I've had the safety thought as well.

Hes a zone corner right now because of his ball skills and natural instincts. He has a lot of work to do to be a corner. He really struggled to cover McMillan. 80% of receivers in the league are quicker than Tet. He won't get away with holding so much in the league. But being able to see the play in front of you and see things develop plays more to his natural gifts. Especially if you're going to have him play DB part time, on top of full time WR.

I'd welcome Travis Hunter and run down to the podium if he's available at #4.

He's going to get most of his snaps as WR1. But I also like the idea of seeing if he plays high leverage snaps at CB/S.

Deep Safety is actually a need for our team more than boundary corner. A lot of CB's have historically converted to S and become all-pros. So maybe WR/S will be his mix of plays for us?

Was listening to Bert Breer & Andrew Callahan on Toucher & Hardy this AM, they were alluding to Hunter being a "generational" talent as he has only scratched the surface of his Offensive capabilities...
He can play some spot Defense, but makes me think that this is probably the best choice at #4....

I don't mind he being a part time player on defense, I've suggested a hybrid NB/FS role for him, but I think in year one, he needs to focus 100% on offense to get that nailed down. Integrating him into the defense could start to happen in year two.

I like how complete a WR Travis Hunter is. Beats press, finds open spots in zone, YAC, contested catches and the change of speeds he shows when releasing off the LoS. The only real negative I have, and it's more about unreal expectations, is that I think he's more of a 4.4 guy rather than 4.3. His deep speed is fine but it doesn't blow me away. I bet he has a good 3-cone though.

To be honest, I think he’ll be there at 4. Jaxson Dart has been getting a lot of helium lately to the point I think it’s possible that either the Saints trade up to 2 to take him or the Browns just take him outright. Sanders to NYG seems like it will happen. Just a feeling.
