Did the Jaguars give up too much? How much would it have cost the Patriots for Hunter?

WIth today's sophistication and specialization in the NFL not convinced that he can be a two way player...
Can see using him in specific situations, but full time is a heavy load in today's NFL not only in preparation but playing 100+ snaps in any give load will wear him down. I know he is smart athlete, but there is so much to know for every opponent on both sides of the ball, not only in meetings, film study but in practice as well.

He’ll get his targets if he gets open. Brian Thomas Jr had a hell of a rookie season. He’s a number 1 WR in the NFL. Hunter will likely be the underneath target. The one thing that is clear is that there are no more excuse for Trevor Lawrence. He’s got a couple of alphas at WR now.
Jax had 19 passing TDs, 11 from Lawrence and 8 from Jones. Thomas caught 10 of them.

Is Corky Jones still there?

Dont want to draft someone issuing threats and ultimatums about how he will be utilized.

...

Little peeved they didn’t feign more interest in Jeanty during the draft process to see if the Raiders might trade up.m

Exactly. A true (i.e. weaselly) professional would have had the Patriots wine-ing and dining Jeanty and inviting him to Foxboro on the Kraft jet, etc. Praising him and leaking positive stories about him to the press, etc.

As far as Hunter, I would use him full time as a CB where he excels (but the Patriots are strong here) and occasionally for WR big plays to massage his ego.

Giving up that much draft capital for anyone who is not a generational QB prospect is nuts. As good a prospect as Travis is, he's not going to make the kind of impact a QB can. They very well could be picking top 5 again next year and they gave up that pick.

No. having Hunter is better than a bunch of jags potentially

F'king ridiculous why anyone would want 2x the reps, 2x the homework, 2x everything else, just to wear out 2x as fast, for the same pay everyone else gets for playing only one side of the ball.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: a real dumb business decision.

What are your thoughts on the Travis Hunter trade? I have mixed feeling on this. Hunter is just such an incredible athlete, but the price was pretty high. It is a gamble and you hate to put so much on one player. Cleveland or the Jaguars may regret this for years to come....or maybe it is a fair trade.

I think that the price would have been too steep even for the Patriots since their problems cannot be fixed with a single player.
All they need is a QB now.

You said something that I had been thinking. That Brian Thomas Jr. is already a #1 WR. That being said, it would have made more sense for JAX to have drafted a WR that could be a true #2 (even a high end one), and that would have made the offense better. I think what JAX did was outright absurd. Like us, they need talent at multiple positions. This trade will really hurt them (especially in the long term).

I think the idea that he is a unicorn and can play both sides of the ball convinced the Jags they needed him. Some media members were comparing him to Ohtani which isn't a fair comparison because of the physicality of NFL football. Also, Ohtani is already dealing with arm issues and may never again be a full time pitcher. Hunter may think twice about playing both sides of the ball when he takes a few hits from NFL safeties on crossing routes.

I agree 100%.

NFL WRs and CBs - even the best ones - have trouble staying 100% healthy.

It is a bit head scratching, but there’s also the fact they are a small market team looking to make an impact. High flying offence that puts up points will put asses in the seats and sell jerseys. They also just brought in an offensive coach who likely pushed for the deal. They are in a weak division so maybe they see this as putting them in a good spot to win the AFC south. If Hunter becomes an all-pro level talent then the trade is justified. We’ll see.

a move like that would have pissed me off... you wanna give up your day 2 pick and the top of your draft next year for a corner back? please, go get a job with the jete

As Boomer B pointed out, the move was likely made to put butt's in seats. Hoping that a "High Flying" offense will be a draw. They might even win the AFC South. However, it's not a decision that is going to make them into a legit SB Contender anytime soon (and has probably severely curbed that possibility). Although their fans might dig it, they'll still be, as far as true winning is concerned, the epitome of mediocrity.

Hunter was my favorite player in the draft, but the cost for Jacksonville to get him was ridiculous.

The Jags are still going to be a bad team next year, Cleveland is getting a top ten pick, wouldn’t be shocked if it was a top three

Imagine having a horrible team and no first round pick

I don't think I'd ever give up a future first for a non QB.

Have fun in next year's draft, Jax.
