2025 Draft: LBers

Teddye Buchanan might be the best coverage linebacker in the draft. That's where I'm looking now.
I do like what I have seen from him.

What do you think about Mapu being that coverage LB? According to PFF, i know grain of salt, he had 260 coverage snaps allowed 20 receptions and a 77 QBR.

Thoughts

He was a safety in college wasn't he? He might well be the coverage linebacker. They also have Christian Elliss too so maybe linebacker isn't a need at all.

Need youth and athleticism.

Check out this scouting report from Ryan Fowler at The Draft Network. He’s the author of the tweet above. He grades Nick Martin as a pro-bowl caliber day one prospect. He even talks about his potential as a wide 9 sub rusher although at 6’ and 220lbs is a bit of a stretch.

Shaun Dolac, Linebacker, Buffalo
6'1", 225 lbs

Amongst linebackers:

Led the nation in tackles

5th in run defense grade
1st in defense grade
1st in tackling grade
1st in coverage grade
1st in Interceptions

He was a combine snub.

Thought Dolac's issue might be athleticism but it appears not

Small school? A team influence trying to hide him?

It's kind of embarrassing.

It's not a competition.

He's really fun to watch. shame he's relatively small (6', 220).

I feel like size will be less of an issue since Vrabel will be running 4-3 and 4-2-5 looks most of the time in our new defense.

The 4 DL will be doing most of the heavy lifting in holding the POA. This is not BB's defense where you need 6'4 lumbering 250 lb linebackers to hold the edge because of heavy 2-gap schemes.

More size would be nice but if he's a playmaker, maybe that's more important for our new defense. The size issues also could mean he drops to a later pick. Will Nick Martin be an option in middle rounds, say 3rd, 4th, or 5th?

The issue is more of a height thing as he's just under 6'. Jamien Sherwood who I think was our first choice at LB is 6'3". Spillane is 6'1" so maybe not as bad as I thought.

If the big boards are to be believed, Martin should be available late day 3. The other reason why we might not make a pick like this is that we already have Dugger and Mapu who probably fit a similar role. Having said that, Martin is one of my favourite watches so I'm certainly game.

The tweet talks about him jumping up to a 5th rounder.
