Vrabel won't allow it. I read that he and baker have been forming a great coach/player relationship that is vital for a young player...
Regarding Baker I haven't stood up in my wheelchair yet twin. Still waiting for him.

Seriously twin: I thought Javon Baker was a Steal last year loved him in College. Still can't get over how he couldn't get on the Field with last years Team.
Twin:... Last season was more disastrous then we all thought we knew.. internal and coaching... baker is the deep threat we need already on the roster.. I'm telling you Vrabel will unlock him..

Unlock twin you're really in my head.

The Bungles are indeed the Bungles
The Bengals had repeatedly said they hope to sign defensive end Trey Hendrickson to a long-term deal. On Thursday, the notoriously frugal franchise threw in the paper towel, allowing Hendrickson to seek a trade.

So what happened? Maxx happened.

The Bengals are notoriously cheap, but he's going to be 31 going into the season. So if he wants that type of money, I'd trade him too as the cliff can show up at any moment now.

There are too many pedestrian edge players that are making top money when initially signing, so they don't have a choice. Bengals have too many needs and they were awful with Hendrickson last season. This is a big problem I've observed since the NFL has been raising the cap yearly. Bad teams are overpaying good, but not great players which wrecks the market for contending teams that are trying to keep their team together. The Trey Flowers deal in 2019 was an absolute market wrecker. Robert Hunt's contract last season. That **** has got to stop.

I'm glad this nonsense wasn't going on during the Pats dynasty or we would've watched guys like Brady, Seymour, Wilfork and Gronk, leaving after their 1st contract.

Agreed .. what is a gut punch is.. guys got 35 sacks in 2 seasons at his age.. were had 17 last season... we had 28

Trading a top-100 pick for a player in his 30s already is rarely a good proposition.
The money doesn't faze me in the slightest, it's the draft capital.

Some guys here want EVERY new guy to be early/mid 20's, so they can"Grow" together.
Horseshit.
In a PERFECT WORLD,that would happen, but that will never fkn happen, fill in the spots with VETTED veterans that can play, and sign/draft guys that are young and have talent.
The older guys on 1-2 years will be gone when the youngins are ready to take over.

I don't understand some of the logic, look up and down the league, good teams have some older players, we WON SB's with older guys that were brought in to help culture/direct traffic.

I know, culture doesn't matter...

If you want him you have to trade for him. Taking his contract is better than fighting other teams in free agency, and trading ensures you get him
It's what Bill did with Miami to get Welker.

You plug holes with those vested veterans, on cheaper contracts. You don't spend top-market FA dollars on them. You certainly don't waste draft capital on them.

Like, I'm not opposed to bringing in Davante Adams for 2 years. He's just money. Or veteran stop-gaps in other positions, so long as they just cost money. And you hope Polk and Baker and Boutee develop, or draft someone else who can.

Spending *draft picks* to get those players, when they should be used on a 22 year old, is where teams get into trouble.

I've said, throw the entire Brinks truck fleet at Ronnie Stanley, he's 31 in a couple weeks. Then you can use a draft pick to develop a guy, in theory, on top of that.

Also, most of those older players that directed culture were ones who were drafted here and were with the team a long time. It's far more rare to bring in a Rodney Harrison (who was still playing at an all-pro level, and signed for a bargain contract) or a Bryan Cox (same idea) or a Ted Washington (same idea). Randy Moss was a trade for a 4th round pick, and he's Randy ****ing Moss.

So, sign Davante Adams on what would be a bargain contract, draft a kid, let them all develop for a couple years under a guy who has done it before, great. Signing Chris Godwin off an ACL injury to a top-market contract, and using draft capital on DK Metcalf is actually insane. That's how teams set themselves back. Bring in Harold Landry for cheap and snag an EDGE rusher in the draft, yes. Trading draft capital for Hendrickson is bonkers.

You do see the difference, yes? If the Patriots were a couple players away from contention, then you explore those trade opportunities, absolutely. There's a difference between 'win now' and 'rebuild'. This is a rebuild. You need young talent under contract for significant term.

We seriously need a crying Emoji. Because it's moves like that which make me weep.
To be fair, that was three months after 28-3.

Draft picks aren't created the same. Especially in this draft, I could see the Patriots deciding that a known quantity (especially for more than one year) is a better choice than the lottery ticket of a pick. I don't see them going the Belichick-in-years-ending-in-7 route of blowing off the draft, though.

Better yet we should make some stupid moves if our own. We got cash to burn. Buy everything at $1.25 to the dollar.

Now this is a guy to go after.

This is great imo, if we can’t land sweat id be all over this. Not young but a good short term solution for a huge need

I would rather have Hendrickson than Sweat. The Eagles DL is so good that Sweat was never getting the focus on him that Hendrickson has to play against.

Isn’t that something we should consider throwing 20 mio + on Williams too? Carter Davis and sweat got lots of attention too
