Here's my Pats QB take. If you can get a 3rd or better, TRADE Milton. We need a backup so SIGN FA QB Jones as backup.
He had his best year under Josh. IF he can be rehabbed he can be traded, else not re-signed.
Keep drafting QBs in 6th or 7th round.

Mac Jones? Agree he's adequate as a backup but he'd probably want to be somewhere other than NE.

Sanders was BB’s first choice, but they couldn’t trade for him because they couldn’t fit him under the salary cap for some reason. This was an example of when many in the media to asked how the heck are the Pats are so tight to the cap when they hardly had any big contracts on the roster?

It’s still mind boggling why Bill traded a 2nd for him, but a 4th for Randy Moss? That should’ve been his answer to not do it.

I said it was a mistake at the time, Bill was trying to make Tom happy and trying to win a Super Bowl. They overpaid the way the Vikings did for Sam Bradford, AB put them in a bind. The 49ers paid a 3rd and 4th for Sanders and a 5th. Still pretty steep.

When you’re in a title hunt you’ll spend more.

There was another article this morning suggesting teams might want him, but a high pick would be an admission that they screwed up last year by not picking him late.

The article suggested maybe a 4th or 5th round pick could get him.

What would be the Pats’ motivation to trade him for so little? He has a lot of value to the Pats.

If you think he can be your starting QB then pay the price, don’t expect the Pats to give him to you.

It's not limited to just this year . I did not what to add all legal language around that as I am no lawyer. If he becomes your franchise QB or franchise QB of another team in next 3 years through a trade , you give 2 additional first round picks.

And if the Patriots believed that then Drake Maye would be the guy traded this offseason. That’s not happening.

Not sure what Milton has done to date to warrant anything more than a 5th round pick in return. I’d love to see a bag for him but let’s be realistic.

If teams want to punt on him and make him their franchise QB we don't want to give it for free. So make it conditional. His value might be 4th for today what about I future. If nobody is taking him with hopes of trying for a franchise QB don't trade him. He can be a cheap backup for us for 3 years . That's infinitely better than a unproven 3rd or 4th round pick. Knowing the value of QB, some team will pony up a 2nd if they become desperate and are enamored by his potential. When sanu can fetch 2 , anything is possible.

Teams are not rational when it comes to QBs.

Come draft day when you miss out in the two weak candidates in Ward and Sanders, and you don’t have any confidence in your existing QBs, then Milton may start looking good.

If somehow they got a 3rd for him that would be an absolute steal. I doubt they get more than a 4th.
He has not shown anything in meaningful regular season game yet. He was drafted in 6th round.
Best bet is to hold on to him and get him some more playing time to showcase him.
