Social Media Sights and Sounds From Day Six Of Patriots Training Camp
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports
The New England Patriots were back at it on Tuesday morning for day six of training camp and like Monday, additional one-on-one, 7-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills continued alongside an emphasis on the running game.
Absent players from practice included quarterback Brian Hoyer for a fourth straight day, running back James White, and guards Chasen Hines and Andrew Stueber.
On offense, Mac Jones saw a reduced workload at quarterback but found himself under pressure throughout the morning. He completed just 6/11 passes during 11-on-11s but completed all eight of his pass attempts during 7-on-7s.
As for backup Bailey Zappe, he was 5/7 passing during 7-on-7s and 9/12 in 11-on-11s.
On the receiving end, Tyquan Thornton continues to impress and even made a ridiculous one-handed catch during 1-on-1 drills on cornerback Jalen Mills. Nelson Agholor also hauled in a few deep receptions that also wooed the fans in attendance.
The story of the day was again the overall performance by the defense as Mack Wilson, Christian Barmore, Josh Uche, Ja’Whaun Bentley, and Ronnie Perkins all recorded unofficial “sacks”. Barmore by himself continued to be a beast in camp and registered multiple run stuffs, generated consistent pressure, and 1-on-1 pass rush wins over the offensive line.
In the special teams unit, Marcus Jones, J.J. Taylor, and Myles Bryant were all observed returning punts.

Tyquan Thornton beat Jalen Mills on a deep ball by shielding the DB off the ball and hauling it in near the end zone. All Mills could do was nod and clap for his teammate.

Trent Brown with an extremely impressive two reps in early 1-on-1s. Stoned both Josh Uche and Matt Judon.

Highlights from 1-on-1 period for the #Patriots:
– Trent Brown stoned Matt Judon and Josh Uche. Judon went nowhere against him.
– Christian Barmore strong again by dusting Onwenu
– Couple good reps for Cajuste and Herron
– Tyquan one-handed catch basket catch on Jalen Mills

Malcolm Butler (vs. Bourne) and Terrance Mitchell (vs. Agholor) had PBUs in 1-on-1s. Mitchell's came on a deep ball that was slightly underthrown.
Jalen Mills and Marcus Jones had reps that likely would have been flagged for holding.

In 11-on-11s, the top defense throttled the top offense's production.
Mac Jones took a sack after a pressure from Mack Wilson. The QB also threw the ball at his own feet after pressure from Henry Anderson and Lawrence Guy (which probably would've been another sack, if live)

Lot of action for Bailey Zappe today. He and the second-team offense took 13 consecutive reps in the latest 11-on-11 period.

Ronnie Perkins has had one of the best practices I’ve seen from him. He had a sack, a couple run stuffs and has been in the backfield plenty today
