Hoping Houghtaling really did show something with the Titans earlier, because otherwise hiring a Bears o-line coach from last year is just moving from the frying pan to the flame.

To be fair Caleb tends to hold onto the ball too long at times, I watched the Bears quite a bit this year and the porous result of the OL was not all on the OL. Not saying they were great just better than the stats show.

I live in Buffalo. I heard him speak weekly. His relationship with the players was legendary. As in... abysmal. His arrogance dwarfed Belichick's. Saint Doug. That was his nickname up here.

That being said, every single person who ever spoke about him said he was a tremendous coach. I describe him as very much like Vrabel and Belichick but with less of a personality.

Marrone once told people openly (by openly, I mean, like, at the podium during a press conference) that he was the best coach in the NFL and that they didn't know what they had in him.

He was angling for the Jets job WHILE he was coaching the Bills, and people believe it was because Pegula took over as the new owner. But then the NY Daily News published the article above that said his own coaching staff hated him because he constantly belittled them and that he was a control freak and a phony. One of those assistants got on the radio and let loose against Marrone after the assistant was fired. On the radio, they said that the source behind the attack on Marrone was an ex-GM who had Woody Johnson's ear, but no one knows.

I think his downfall is that unlike Belichick, Marrone has a really thin skin, and he wanted to be appreciated. He grew up poor in the Bronx. He hated criticism. But was eager to deliver criticism. So, kind of old school, but he has his antennas up for any criticism.

Not a guy you want as the face of your coaching staff.

Thankfully strong personalities like Vrabel can be interface with the media and public while Marrone works with the OL.

Yep. So many factors go into it. Rham is a 100% responsible for his ball security. Personally I think many times he tries to do too much and that is when he has a lapse in concentration.

The upgrade at OL coach from Matt Patricia (2022) to Adrian Klemm (2023) to Scott Peters (2024) to Doug Marrone (2025) is significant. Maybe Marrone can make something out of their collection of middling-at-best tackles.

I really think that most on here are overrating Marone as an OL coach. I think its a bad hire but hopefully with improved talent on the OL they play well. I have never hoped to be so wrong before.

Wow...Just watched his highlights for the year. Seems like a young McCaffery type player, good hands, can make people miss and can rush between the hash marks.

I do agree, everything I see out of Williams screams major bust, and that’s one of the reasons. I was surprised that was the spot Ben Johnson chose. I figure if Johnson can fix Caleb up, then he really is all that he’s been cracked up to be as a coach.

Nice! I was expecting a couple of links or something and that would be it. I very much appreciate you taking the time to type that response. I remember him from his Jax and Dilldo’s days but never heard anything about him. Honest impression….he could be perfect for the job. Thanks again!

That would might make him a bad HC candidate, I fail to see why it would be an impediment as OL coach with someone else running the show

What a difference it makes when you have a coach who has been outside the building and has connections.

I think it’s more that Vrabel is a persuasive leader that draws other coaches, which is a great sign. Doesn’t hurt that he’s exactly the right age, late 40s, in his prime, not too young or old. Now let’s hope his charm can snag us a few top FA’s.

If we could get a player like him in the draft and work him into the rotation with Rham and Gibson this year I would be all for that. If he develops well then at years end make the decision if Rham should be on the team beyond the 2025 season.

If Johnson was the OC then maybe, but he is the HC and can’t concentrate on just the QB.

They are finally trending up. This is the first time they trended up since they beat the Rams in the SB the second time. Since then, it's been a slide backwards. Brady was the most unhappy 8-0 QB because it was over in 2019 and he knew it. I might give you a brief blip of upswing on Jones' rookie year, but Bill eff'd that up because he couldn't get out of his Nixonian level paranoia and had to stay in his circle of trust when he replaced JMcD with FM and JJ. Don't get all twisted because Vrabel has a plan and when they don't stretch to $35m for Higgins he goes to some also-ran team. There's light at the end of the tunnel, first time in years. Don't allow yourself to get so excited (pun intended) that when they don't sign Higgins, you get pissed off.

Anyone think that Vrabel and this staff will be a draw for FAs as much as Maye is?

Certainly driven players who want to be coached hard and win will gravitate to the Pats.

Keion White should thrive in this setting, and I expect players like Trent Brown won’t want to come here, let alone stay here.

I don’t know what to make of Keion White. His draft day video made it seem like he was extremely pissed to be drafted by the Pats and never wanted to be involved with Belichick. But his comments towards the end of the season made it sound like he was pissed at the foolishness of Mayo as coach. Will be interesting to see what happens here. I can see him either turning into a beast or being shipped out in training camp with harsh final words, not really seeing the in-between happening.
