They spent next to nothing... the Krafts need to do better. You're right Pape. But, keeping some "Rainy Day" money for your own players and FA acquisitions in 2026 FA and beyond is just prudent.
would you go for a guy like Cooper Kupp? 32... often injured... but if he can play, he produces yards...Pats have a few #3 WRs and nothing that’s a 2 and nowhere near a #1
Guys like Boutte and Douglas can be serviceable if not terrific #3 guys
DK is one dimensional so you have to have the right WR group with him - not a stand alone guy. Deebo is done and not worth the money. Adams is a great guy to pair with DK, or with Hunter. Adams works his way anywhere, like Jakobi Myers, but is much better in stretching the field. Wilson is obviously the strongest candidate, but Adams is crafty. Deebo is a No for me. Adams and DK are a yes, and Adams is a lot easier to fit in. I assume Rogers is retiring so Adams has to find his way.Your very convincing I must say... ok d%#*!@t I'm sold .. Wilson is just Phenomenal.. guys got some of best hands in the league... let me ask what would think about DK, Deebo and Devante?
Takes more than money in some cases... personally, I don't think he even gets to free agencyIt also might be as simple as the Patriots can (and probably should), offer more money than the Rams. Fortune favors the bold, and a young OT that has his best Football ahead of him is worth paying for. Especially given the state of our OL. It also gives us more flexibility in the Draft.
Because it's smart to have 10 to 20 Million to keep Cap flexibility for the future. We have so much of it we could land multiple talented young FA's, and still not keep us from being able to acquire more in the future (in addition to signing our pwn players).
I am not sure why you think it is prudent to save money for 2026. We need players in 2025 and we can sign 26 and 27 year olds on 3 or 4 year contracts. No reason to be prudent IMO since we have so many needs. There is no reason to have money for a rainy day in the NFL.You're right Pape. WR: via trade, and draft, and FAIn recent years a lot of top WRs get traded. Assuming there is a top guy out there in the market, I think this would be a great move for the Patriots. Bringing in a proven veteran WR1 type in a trade, given the cap money we have makes a lot of sense. It will immediately elevate the offense and give Maye a top guy to throw to opening up all of the other things we want to do. Much more than a drafted rookie would. We have picks and cap space to fix the OL as well. We are only obligated on the cap for the salary, so if an extension is warranted it’s more workable than a free agent contract.
How much does that WR help if Maye is on his ass, running for his life, or in the blue tent with another concussion?
Build the line first. Good OL benefits running game and passing game both. Good OL helps make both QB and WRs better. One elite WR seems great until he tweaks an ankle. Don’t put all our eggs in that basket.
I'm not saying we don't have a lot of needs and should spend what is needed to fill the talent holes. But there's no way we should go into "Cap Hell". And, we can achieve what we need to without having no flexibility whatsoever. That's all I'm saying.I am not sure why you think it is prudent to save money for 2026. Most of them don't make it to FA.Takes more than money in some cases... personally, I don't think he even gets to free agency
We are not going into cap hell. At the moment, we have no void years in our existing cap, and no extended contracts expressly to decrease the immediate cap but increase future caps. We are under the cap this year and for years to come. No need to be prudent now, we have been prudent for the last 3 years.I'm not saying we don't have a lot of needs and should spend what is needed to fill the talent holes. While i would agree with you normally the fact is they have another 100+ million available next year as well. Add onto the fact they have no dead money, no void years, or any of the other "put it on the credit card" type moves cap space is the last thing they should be worried about. I would argue they should do the opposite, IF they see someone they like, think is worth the money, and can be a solid starter for the next 2-5 years, go get them even overpaying by 10-15%. This team needs an infusion of talent more then they need a rainy day fund at this time. In a couple years when they need to start thinking about paying Maye and in theory a good team around him, sure save and have a rainy day fund. Right now? That we'll have to overpay is a given. I just don't know how many holes we'll be able to plug with quality FA's this off season. Having Maye and Vrabel being here is a good thing (had Mayo stayed, not even overpaying would have gotten anything of tangible talent added). If it was a banner year for FA's in age, talent, and positions that we need on our team, I'd be all for making it rain cash. I suppose they'll have to grab what they can this year, nail the Draft, and then continue in 2026 and beyond. While i would agree with you normally the fact is they have another 100+ million available next year as well. The team needs to achieve a critical mass of talent to get back to playing good football. We can't afford another year of overthinking things. Spend to the cap without mortgaging future years. Take all of the BPA's in the draft and FA that fit on a well constructed roster. In other words BPA does not help if they all play the same position or there are no players at the teams most glaring needs. All NFL rosters have needs, get to the point where next years offseason can concentrate on a smaller number of gaps.We are not going into cap hell. Not 1 WR on the Pats roster is irreplaceable. All JAGs.Osborn and Bourne have been successful in the NFL before… so you’re suggesting they changed or something around them changed… newsflash, it wasn’t them.
Douglas on the Texans is Tank Dell, on the Patriots who can’t block for more than a millisecond he’s Demario Douglas.
It’s a team sport.
Every season its the same game of hope and change.Pats have a few #3 WRs and nothing that’s a 2 and nowhere near a #1

Thats cause BB didn't use analytics when he chose who to sign.Because the FA road has worked beautifully.
Osborn, Agahlor, Parker (Carter), Bourne,
Agreed. Do you trust Wolf to do that? The team needs to achieve a critical mass of talent to get back to playing good football. We can't afford another year of overthinking things. That’s my point, there are too many needs right now and jumping to get a guy who would be the icing on the cake is just a distraction when you haven’t started making the batter yet. There will be a fresh crop of stellar WRs next year, and the year after, and the year after that. Just focus on building the foundations first.A good OL requires more than just one move though and can possibly a multi year process so theres no sense in waiting if a great wr comes available, and history shows they are more readily available for trade than the great ot’s. If the opportunity comes for the dynamic wr id jump at it while i work on building the OL. In todays game the wr has proven to be key in the development of a young qb.
Look at jalen hurts before and after aj brown. Tua before and after tyreek hill. Allen before and after stefon diggs. Burrow before and after chase. The before and after isn’t even close. I would not shy away from making a similar big move just because there are other needs.
Exactly. We can upgrade WRs anytime. Elite OTs are much more scarce. We need to prioritize the hardest to find critical needs first. That may take time but stay focused. Get the best LT we can find right now. If there’s an upgrade available next year do the upgrade. Wash rinse repeat, until we have a solid OL. If we won Lombardis with the likes of Jabar Gaffney at WR we can do it again. Can’t win if the QB can’t stay upright. Not 1 WR on the Pats roster is irreplaceable. All JAGs.
There are plenty of guys like Douglas in the NFL.
