Kraft realized that he didn't set Mayo up in a great position to succeed this year, and apologized to Mayo for doing so at the press conference.We will never know what Mayo could have done since Kraft didn't give him a chance.
If Kraft spent in FA for players that were sure bets to be good and the 2024 draft netted more than just a 3rd pick QB, then you can begin building the case to fire Mayo.
All the Pats 2024 personnel problems are still here.
That said, even accounting for the fact that he was dealt a terrible hand, Mayo still could've done enough to give Kraft confidence that he could turn things around. But he didn't. My gut tells me that the "Gibson is starting" fubar was the final straw. Whatever happened there, it was his fault, and just glibly saying "Coaches' decision" after the fact showed he wasn't taking responsibility for it.
