Using PFR, for fun I made this comp of Tom Brady’s second 2001 season (age 24) with Drake Maye’s rookie 2024 season (age 22). I didn’t use TB’s rookie year because he hardly played.

No I’m not saying Drake is the GOAT. Fwiw, Pretty nice rookie year playing with much, much less.

they lived in two different worlds...

Brady had Belichick, a stout line, a good defense, Charlie Weis and a full year of practice before the whole "Mo Lewis Affair" thrust him into the spotlight...

Maye had "Scowling" Jerod, was set with a porous line, a bad defense, Van Pelt, and a couple months of practice before the whole "Mayo Is Suddenly Afraid of Losing His Job Because We Suck & Brissett Sucks Even More Affair" thrust him into the spotlight

Brady also had a number 1 WR. Troy Brown, 1200 yards receiving. In his prime. He even had Terry Glenn for a few games, who was a pro bowl talent in his prime.

Asking Maye to succeed with Soda Pop Douglas as his number 1 is asinine.

I started a thread at one point tracking Mayes stats through his first x # of starts vs Brady. But the football depression the 3 Stooges coaching staff afflicted me with resulted in me losing interest in keeping it updated

Year 2 is more difficult for a rookie QB too. CJ Stroud has had a tough season with more INTs and more sacks.

31 NFL DCs have had 7 months to break down every inch of NFL film on your game. At least 1 DC in bound to notice something that you excel at and try to take it away.

well - assuming those DCs watch film, or do anything besides scowl on the sidelines. After all, not much can be done once the players cross the white line...

We will never know what Mayo could have done since Kraft didn't give him a chance.

If Kraft spent in FA for players that were sure bets to be good and the 2024 draft netted more than just a 3rd pick QB, then you can begin building the case to fire Mayo.

All the Pats 2024 personnel problems are still here.

Well, we can always hope for a repeat of TB's second year.

This a bold take, you really think there was no case for firing Mayo?

Brady wasnt asked to do a lot early in his career , just be a “game manager”

Bingo

In 2001, if NE scored at least 17 points they won. Defense and Special Teams were instrumental in winning the Pats first Lombardi.

Funny only one team had to score more than 17 points to win during WC weekend.

Didn't we do this with Mac Jones' rookie year compared to Brady's...

If you bet all 4 underdogs straight up this weekend a $100 would pay $15,000 if it came in

No and I am really shocked that I am the only one calling out Kraft and his dirty BS and I'm not a SJW.
