Josh McCown is nowhere near ready to be an offensive coordinator. They need someone with actual experience.

How do you know that? He was a QB for nearly two decades. Kevin O'Connell (who he coaches under) only had a year or two more of head coaching before he became an OC. McDaniels only had about two or three more years of coaching (and three of his years coaching was as a low level assistant) when he became the unofficial OC with New England. Some guys it just comes naturally.

Being a back up all those years, McCown had much of the same experiences in learning how to gameplan and call plays as any coaching assistant. In fact, he probably had the benefit of wearing the head set for most of those games hearing the reasoning on how OCs called particular plays in real time which no assistant gets until they become a position coach.

He could fail, but he isn't getting head coach consideration because teams think he is nowhere ready to be an OC.

Vrabel is a good coach too and the optics were the hiring was rushed and some complained. Josh is a good coach. Kraft is all about optics.

C'mon, it was because the Pats crapped on Rooney Rule and only interviewed two legitimate candidates and then hired Vrabel the next day. To think Vrabel isn't throwing platitudes at McDaniels because of optics is a stretch. I am sure Vrabel is going to interview plenty of guys he doesn't even intend to hire because he wants to get intel on their teams.

There is a prevailing belief the reason that Vrabel even interviewed with the Jets was to get intel on them because they interviewed him at their facilities while the team was practicing.

Yup and those were bad optics and they don’t want to go through that again. That’s my only point.

So Kevin Stefanski has found another scapegoat OC to blame & fire when things go off the rails again in Cleveland, huh? shame... he going to ruin another promising OC... Cleveland needs to cut bait with that guy...
Who was the promising OC he ruined? He canned Dorsey b/c he wasn't good. Same as in BUF.

I don’t know it, it’s my opinion. I want Maye with an experienced OC, not a first timer.

Now that the Pats have an experience head coach, I am not concerned about experienced coordinators. What Josh McCown did for Sam Darnold this season (minus the last two games) tells me he can coach up Drake Maye. Just because a coordinator candidate doesn't have the experience, doesn't mean he won't be as good or better than a guy with a decade or more of OC experience.

I want the best system for Maye. The McDaniels system isn't that. Yes, McDaniels can make his system work for any QB, but that doesn't mean it puts Maye in the best position to be successful.

And I am worried that his system is outdated. And apparently McDaniels agrees since he has spent the last couple of years studying the college game to figure out ways to incorporate the hottest trends into his system. So there could be a lot of tinkering going on for the first year or two.

Avp? i guess thats it... thought he ran thru more than that

Another15 months McDaniels will be AARP eligible. They need to go younger.

If we lost that game do you think Mayo stays?
No
That letter from RK was drawn up weeks before
As Kraft said mid way through the season he knew we were going in the wrong direction
Don’t think the Krafts don’t monitor this site. The fans in the stands and STH complaining in their portal were loud and clear. Knock this **** off
We are known as the Elite of the NFL for many years. We thrive to stay there
He could see the stadium half filled. And many of the half filled were the other teams fans
He had tickets as I did in the 80’s with blackouts
He was protecting his investment and not going back to those days
He did nit have another year leeway. 5 years was enough. The time was now
Vrabel was out there and I am sure they were in contact
He acted firmly

AVP was his first OC (but didn't call plays) and stayed in that role for 3 years. He left and they hired Dorsey,

That whole Watson situation is a mess.
that was bad for avp... he probably could have developed a bit more given more opportunities to do so

We agree on the system, but I still want a more experienced coordinator. You’re right that experience isn’t a guarantee of success, and lack of experience doesn’t mean McCown won’t succeed, I would just prefer a more experienced guy.

Seriously? What are you thinking PF2? They could run West Coast one series and EP the next? How about play to play? Or here’s a really novel idea, make the defensive coordinator the offensive coordinator.
Slim Matt Patricia says hello.
