Then he should have been gone before the last game ever started.
I don't disagree with you, I think it's probably not a great look from an optics perspective, not very respectful of Mayo and may give pause to future coaches considering NE. Again, I don't like this line of thinking, just think that this is what actually happened.

If Rees is out then McDaniels is probably the best option unless you can convince Josh McCown of course.
Josh McDaniels is my preference. We need veteran stability for this team.. Last season made me miss veteran leaders at coaching and players on the field so much. Josh has been there.. seen it all and I trust his abilities to take Drake and the offense to where It needs to be.

Trusted and would take the fall for Don Roberto. Jon Fredo is merely an Uber driver.
I think Jonathan is more like Sonny. Hes blown up at owners meetings and yelled at Jerry Jones.

Daniel is Fredo...marketing lackey
David might be Michael....black sheep
Josh is Connie

Phil Perry floated Dean Pees coming as a "special advisor/defensive assistant" Kinda like a Dom Capers role.

Hes currently w/ BAL.
Also…

Perry suggested another name with Patriots ties in Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who spent seven seasons in New England from 2009-15 in a variety of defensive coaching roles.

"One name that I would just throw into the mix because we're familiar with him here is Pat Graham," Perry said. "Really smart guy, defensive coordinator at a number of different places, has some play-calling experience, his contract is up after having just been in Vegas. Smart guy, Yale guy, would know the area, so that would make some sense too."

Listening to Vrabel's answers on McDaniels in recent days, I gotta think he is at best not Vrabel's first choice and at worst not even a realistic consideration. Every time someone brings up McDaniels, Vrabel says something like he is going to consider a lot of coordinator candidates. He doesn't really say anything about McDaniels other than he is on a long list of OC candidates. If he was the forgone favorite, Vrabel would most likely be talking up McDaniels and how great of an OC he is and how good he is at developing QBs.

Maybe Vrabel is playing it close to his vest. But he doesn't seem all that keen on hiring McDaniels. Add the fact that Vrabel has been a WCO guy in the past, it seems like Vrabel will go in a different direction.

Yep. I remember liking Pat Graham. In a lateral move left after the 2015 season to go to the NYG. He was Flo's DC in MIA in 2019...didn't do that great. Only lasted a year. Did well in 2020 and 2023....

So it's McCown then??

It reminds me how BB didn’t seem too interested in Mac Jones which was probably a smoke screen.

Don't have a problem with that. Pees and Vrabel have a history both when Vrabel was a player and when Vrabel was a head coach. Pees was Vrabel's first DC in Tennessee, but retired after one year (subsequently unretired and took a job with the Falcons).

So it's McCown then??

I would say he is a strong candidate. Don't know if he is the leading candidate. I am sure he will be interviewed.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know why Vrabel would have to hide interest. McDaniels first choice would be coming back to the Patriots. I don't know if he ever moved his family from here because he has a kid with special needs and didn't want to move him.

I think they’re treading lightly because of how much they got killed for the Rooney Rule stuff. National media has McDaniels as a clear favorite, and if the list of invites ends up being McDaniels plus two random minority dudes, they’re gonna get killed again.

I’d still have McDaniels as the clear favorite, especially with Rees spoken for.

I wonder if Josh McD would come on too knowing his history with the Team?? Could we carry Two Offensive Coordinators??
