Perhaps I misread him, but wasn’t there an inking that the amount of losing and desperation was starting to get to the Qb as the season progressed ?

While losing is to be expected - to an extent - when a team gets a rookie QB and is lacking talent, there just seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel this season.

I’m hoping that the arrival of Vrabel, while it may not produce double digits wins right away, might show Maye that improvement is on the horizon. Maye (1) improving (2) getting help in the form of legit talent around him and (3) wanting to remain in NE are - imo - important components in the rebuild.
There is nothing to imply that Mayes heart isn’t in it.

Thats fine, let every player rip the people who pay their salaries. Sounds like smart business to me.
Why do we care about smart business? I care about winning football.
If some fans are offended by Travis comments why would I care? If they become giants fans over it, why would I care? If Bob Kraft loses money over it why would I care?

It's about respect and having control over your locker room. Want to banter about how the fans don't know their ****..all day long, behind closed doors.

Only bad organizations allow that too happen. There are certain tenets you as a professional athlete abide by. One is never, ever under any circumstance tell fans they are stupid.

He's not good enough to make those comments, is the point.
It would be one thing if, just for example, prime Mike Vrabel had said that. Tavai is an overpriced JAG, and should be on the next plane out of town.

Allegedly, the Jaguar had one of the best versions of Doom. Also Aliens vs Predator was allegedly great on the Jaguar as well. Never had one, so can’t confirm that.
I had Doom on a floppy disc.

Probably will be....Only my wife gets to call me stupid.

They could cut close to half the team, thats how bad i think the roster is.
The average NFL team has a 50% roster turnover every 2 years, so not unlikely that 50% are gone in short order.

My only concern with the hiring of Vrabel is: how many draft picks will we lose, because the news came out during a weekend of playoff games?

On the other end of the spectrum, many players were not very supportive of Mayo after he was fired. The locker room attitude needs a reset as well as the coaching staff. Even though Tavai deserves all of the backlash, he was operating under a set of rules and influences that are no longer applicable. The players that are good enough to start training camp should get a clean slate. After that, I am confident that anyone that doesn't toe the line will be dealt with appropriately. (including Wes Welker if he joins the coaching staff)

Technically they are announcing it today… the news came from reporters yesterday lol

Betcha they could (and arguably should) dump more than 50% of this roster. Only perhaps 20-30% of the team is more than marginally above replacement level

I think what should be kept in mind is that Tavai said what he said, Jerod supposedly “talked to him” and then after that talk, he doubled down on it. So either Jerod didn’t say anything of consequence, or Jerod basically said that his words were perfectly fine. Or they didn’t talk at all and were just faking that they did to “look good” (common in the Mayo era).

To your point, Tavai’s comments were the unavoidable eventual outcome of a locker room culture where everyone is permitted and encouraged to say whatever they want to the media at any time without any restriction or consequence. Tavai was embracing both the “brotherhood” culture by protecting his guys from the mean fans, and the “speak your mind” culture by telling the fans how he feels. Obviously this is very wrong but it was what he was steered to do by his boss. It’s not like he has always been a grumpy malcontent.

If Vrabel comes in and deems him worthy enough from a talent perspective to be kept, and he can impress upon him that this is wrong and cannot be done again and get him to address it in an apologetic way in earnest in camp and leave it in the past, he may have a future on the team. He will always have a little bit of a stigma with the fans, but if the team is winning and he is a part of that winning and keeps his nose clean then it will wash off over time.

Yeah we disagree. From a football standpoint this is irrelevant so you don’t cut him. Winning is more important than fans feelings.

Apparently there’s chatter in league circles that Vrabel didn’t take that early Jets interview to antagonize Kraft, because he already had a good idea it was his job anyway, but instead took it to go scope out the Jets while their season was still in-session and get a bunch of free intel about their whole operation right before he has to start playing against them twice a year.

If true that’s ****ed up and also genius.
dare I say... chess vs checkers?
