The further away we get from the season ending, and looking back at all of it, I really believe Mayo's job was to not be Bill. "It's all good, Jerod, just don't be like Bill." I think he was told they were going to suck, they expected him to be a rookie, learn on the job. This, to me anyway, explains the lack of urgency with him on game day. Oh well, they expected us to suck, and I'm a rookie. He probably got more assurances, verbally, that everything was fine, until it wasn't. I have no idea when the switch was flipped, but being lifeless coming out of the bye week is a bad look.
The only time I saw him "coaching" was the first Bills game. Maybe he wanted that one more than the others, I have not idea. The whole season felt like it was just going thru the motions with Mayo. To your point, that won't be the case at any point during the season in 2025.
