Also, Maye has a lot of abilities and tools to work with.

I wouldn’t mind Tommy Rees but I’m not opposed to Josh because it would be a long term commitment as long it worked. I know the Josh detractors have said it’s an outdated offense. To me I think Josh has spent the last couple years watching games and thinking about how he could update his playbook and play calling, I would think that’s what any out of work coordinator would be doing.

If most of the league was running a certain type of offense would it be better to be a team that ran a different offense? I remember Bill saying at one point the Pats, Steelers and a couple other teams were running a 3-4 defense while all the others ran a 4-3, he thought it gave then an advantage because offenses had to spend some more time planning for something they didn’t see too often.
I just dont see where much has changed on today’s offenses, maybe a little wrinkle here and there but overall I dont think anything has changed that much from even 15-20 years ago. So I dont get the outdated thing folks are talking about. Offenses sure look the same they did 10-15 years ago to me. Gronk changed the TE role, Mahomes is still a primarily pocket passer.

I don't remember the name of the place, we happened to go to the place that is Nashville's official Patriots fans bar. It seemed like a great place to watch a game. I am sure management is happy with the coaching decision. Do you ever watch games there?
We watched the Pats get blown out by the Cowboys at that bar.

So on NBC they are saying it's going to be Josh McDaniels at OC, so get ready folks...

No point in hoping for a guy who was chased out of his college OC job last year. I know these guys going through puberty have great appeal but he's off the table.

I've been a Patriots Fan since 1974 (when I was 10). Although "new wrinkles" have come along in that time, the basics haven't changed. Good players, good coaching, and proper execution is what's always won championships by and large.

we now have a coach who has, on a football field, outmaneuvered BB in the recent past

vs a coach we just let go that seemed to always make the wrong decision just related to game clock etc

so Vrabel is a definite upgrade, which makes sense cuz he has more experience

but we once again did a search that took not even a week? cmon
Hopefully Vrabel is better at determining the direction of the wind, than Mayo was.

Might be important some time.

All we should hope for right now is for respectability to come back to this team. I’d say 7-9 wins for his first season would give this fanbase some hope for optimism. I think 4 wins would feel more the same.

Happy about this. Do they have to go through the Rooney rule though hiring OC’s and DC’s ?

They do. 2 minority external interviews for each. Not sure if they have to be in person

Edit: looks like it doesn’t require them to be in-person, and as far as I can tell it doesn’t say they have to be “external” either. So theoretically they could interview guys already in the building. The QB Coach is also subject to this rule but only requires 1 interview, not 2.

Can you explain what you mean by this?
Perhaps I misread him, but wasn’t there an inking that the amount of losing and desperation was starting to get to the Qb as the season progressed ?

While losing is to be expected - to an extent - when a team gets a rookie QB and is lacking talent, there just seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel this season.

I’m hoping that the arrival of Vrabel, while it may not produce double digits wins right away, might show Maye that improvement is on the horizon. Maye (1) improving (2) getting help in the form of legit talent around him and (3) wanting to remain in NE are - imo - important components in the rebuild.

He had no idea what a NFL organization was like or what he should expect.

He will learn that the previous coaching staff was not the standard, and he should be thrilled at the contrast, as should players like White.

I am happy that they fixed the Mayo mistake before any lasting damage was done.

just thought id link this in here for an outsider perspective. I was browsing a dolphin forum to see what they thought of welker being fired and i came across this thread of Vrabel being hired. Gets me pretty excited as they are all quite fearful of the move They were pretty mixed on welker

Edit: gonna add bills fans reactions too while im at it. Sounds like they view us as the main threat in afce now and also obviously think its a great move for us.

What took you so long

Is that why he let the NYJ and the Jags punch us in the mouth?

He simply lost his way.
No argument from me there, I wasn't commenting on Mayo. My statement was in support of investing in the DL and LB to be able to stop the run. Sort of like the NFL version of the Gieco ad. It's so obvious that even Mayo knew that you need to stop the run, LOL.

Apparently there’s chatter in league circles that Vrabel didn’t take that early Jets interview to antagonize Kraft, because he already had a good idea it was his job anyway, but instead took it to go scope out the Jets while their season was still in-session and get a bunch of free intel about their whole operation right before he has to start playing against them twice a year.

If true that’s ****ed up and also genius.
