The biggest problem with McDaniels offense is that it requires a lot from WRs.

In 20 years we only drafted one who was able to learn it and play it to its top potential, Julian Edelman.

So was the problem the drafting or the complex offense requiring reads by the QB and WR to be exactly on the same page?

Wasn't much of what Brady did with Josh as OC have a lot of West Coast based principles and schemes in it? Montana was Brady's Idol. And Montana was a mostly West Coast Offense QB. Josh used a bit of a few systems, including West Coast. I have a hard time believing that Josh can't tailor an Offense to Maye's current strength's, and then alter it as Maye grows beyond what he can currently do. I'm not all-in with Josh as OC. But I don't believe he'll hurt or hinder Maye's development.

He adapted to Cam. Josh adjusted for Mac. You might be over stating the differences between EP and WC. It is not calculus.

I love Maye, but he is reckless at times. Too many bad passes, too many dangerous runs. Maye is young and needs "in-game" discipline. I think Josh can do that like he did with Mac. Josh can slow down the game for Maye. For Drake over the next 2 years, I think the QB in-game management is more important than the offensive scheme. Maye can identify the Mike, read the defense, and set the offense, he is a smart guy, he can handle that easily. Maye's downfall is his passion that leads to some crazy execution. Josh will be in Maye's ear continually to keep Maye's head in the game.

Josh is coming off failure in LV, is well rested, and has Vrabel taking the pressure off him. I think Josh will get a lot more out of Drake.

That’s overblown. We barely drafted WRs and none of them failed because they couldn’t understand the system.

This year we ran the simple West Coast and Polk and Baker could not grasp it. Maybe the receivers not knowing the EP system is an overblown storyline. Maybe the PATS draft receivers that really really suck and it is not so much about the EP system. Just draft AJ Brown, Ladd McConkey, etc., and I bet the issue is solved.

It’s not that different. The concepts are very similar. Maye can easily adapt.

I don’t think it will set him back at all. He will be getting better coaching. I wouldn’t say Alex Van Punt made Maye a WCO expert. And the concepts are not very different.

That’s not a big deal. There is a ton of crossover. How much did he learn in a season that can’t be changed in another?
The alternative is what, stick with a bad OC because he’s familiar. No thanks.

Maye will become an expert in the offense no matter who is running the offense. By the end of camp, he’ll have it figured out. So if its McDaniels, Maye will figure it out.

Whoever the defensive coordinator is, I want a defense that attacks the offense, not a reactionary defense. One that can scheme pressure. Get after the QB. And obviously have to improve the run defense.

Any DC would.
You can’t pick a coordinator based upon how great he would look in the perfect situation.
Ryan outsmarts himself, and is concerns about being viewed as a tough guy rather then winning. It won’t work.

Please list the number of successful QBs who have to learn a new offense after their rookie year.

Maye has already learned multiple offenses in his career between college and the NFL. I don’t think having to learn Josh’s scheme is going to break him. He’s extremely smart.

We are in a bit of uncharted territory in regards to having an HC hired so soon. Not typical. This is where they get into an advantage with being able to do interviews for staff far earlier than other teams. Vrabel will be able to get interviews this coming week with pretty much any team, although I believe guys on the Lions and Chiefs may be off limits for now. Then the week after this week they can officially hire anyone on a team that is eliminated. There is no “in person” requirement for roles below HC so if Vrabel wants a guy then he just has to wait for that person’s team to no longer be in contention to hire them.
