And why would Cowden even agree to this?

I don't think the tweets are right; no way Vrabel takes this on without his own personnel guy in place.
I am guessing that Cowden will come help, Wolf will still run the scouting dept, they will get rid of some people and add some others, but Vrabel will be granted final say over Wolf

I'm not totally against Josh being brought in as OC. Here's why: He has a QB in Maye that is bigger, stronger, faster, and quicker than Brady ever was. Maye has a cannon for an arm, but can make touch passes as well. And, although an OL that can not only provide hopefully excellent pass protection is assembled, but also the same regarding run blocking (with a hopefully talented and deep RB Corps), as you don't want to be one dimensional as an offense. And add a true #1 WR and the rest of the WR Corps being truly solid (from a solid high quality #2 WR, to a solid Slot WR, etc.), you then tailor that Offense to Maye's abilities. The kid clearly not only has a high IQ in general, but the same regarding his Football IQ. The way he handles himself in Press Conferences (especially during this past season's train wreck), was really impressive. And, unlike Brady being superb in the pocket, Maye can do the same, but has the athletic ability to run out of pressure that Brady physically couldn't do. Not to mention you can have plays that allow you to design plays to not use him like Josh Allen (where he's the Top 3 in rushing every season because the RB Corps sucks (like the Bills until the last year or two when they finally drafted decent RB's). I would also keep AVP as strictly a QB Coach, as he's done well with the basics regarding Maye and Milton. But, even if Vrabel goes in a different direction regarding OC and the whole Offensive Staff, consider that two of the top level offensive minds in the NFL (one of them being the Packers current HC and was OC before that), he has proved he can identify Offensive Coaching talent. He got a the most out of JAG QB's and an owner at TN that was at best, less than desirable. We always knew this was a full-blown rebuild, but Mayo just wasn't qualified and even the Defense which was in the Top 10 the Season before despite injuries, got a lot worse. We simply saw a poorly coached and undisciplined football team this past season that showed no improvement and even regressed (except for having a #1 CB and now a Franchise QB). For the time being, at least we can have hope that the team will at least get back to being fundementally sound and better at acquring and coaching talent. Ben Johnson may very well become a SB Winning HC someday. But, Vrabel, at worst, is worthy of having true optimism about.

Didn’t he incorporate parts of other offensive systems into the Patriots playbook? I know he used different OL blocking schemes.

If you’re going to run the Erhardt/Perkins offense, he’s head and shoulders over anyone else. He can work here with Maye the rest of his career if he chooses. He’s done getting HC jobs. It’s a layup if you want that system.
Strong points.
The Erhardt Perkins system has been around 50 years and still can [edited - thanks] deliver top offensive performance.
The key is a QB who can diagnose the defense and take what they are offering.
The one single strength the Patriots offense has is a QB who appears to have high football IQ and seems quick to understand the defense.

And, as noted, Josh might be the best OC candidate who is least likely to receive another head coaching opportunity anytime soon.

That’s not a bad combination of attributes. On its own I might prefer the next young offensive innovator. But the decline of the Patriots was accelerated by the revolving door at coordinator. It’s possible there’s a more exciting novel coordinator candidate - but is there a more successful stable candidate?

No, you’re not the only one. I don’t want him back as he’s a fraud and not liked by players.
What patriots player didn’t like him?

I find your generalization to be unwarrranted. There are in any case reports tha McD has been studying up on how to "modernize" his approach to offense, how to incorporate principles from more recent pro and college schemes and to simplify his approach. He's a serious student of the game, I think, who has a demonstrated ability to develop quarterbacks. While I am sure there are excellent alternative, I have not seen a convincing reason not to consider him a strong candidate for the job.
his offense heavily depens on QB and WR reading the defense the same way, i just don't think this approach is best. Additionally maye played in west coast offense this season. Why change to a complete new very complex system as evidenced by several players not able to learn the offense under JMD without brady

hell our WR were not smart enough to learn this years offense

What patriots player didn’t like him?
None that we know of because Bill was the HC, Tom Brady was the QB and they were winning. According to Derek Carr, McDaniels told him he was bullied by Tom.

But Broncos players didn’t like him and Raiders players disliked him so much they ambushed him in the locker room which eventually led to him being fired.

He doesn’t have the protection of Bill and Tom anymore.

I think we are keeping Wolf & Co. in place until May...then we'll fire them all (keep some too) and put Cowden in charge.

We aren’t hiring him to be HC. I could not care less if players don’t like the way he acted as HC. I certainly don’t want to act based upon the opinion of the crew of losers on the raiders.

Matt Groh is gone I guess for sure.. wolf might be in some reduced capacity purely due to Green Bay roots

That is true - that would be a very stable, experienced staff - both having been HC's.
But BB tried that with Patricia & Judge & O'Brien and it was a disaster. (granted, all the particularities of their roles)

The only downfall would be both guys could be looking for a quick rebound to chase the HC job somewhere again.
I actually think that'd be Saleh more than JMD - who might be done in the HC carousel for a while, or NFL at least.
McDaniels is forever black listed as a head coach in the nfl…culminating from two of the worst head coaching gigs in nfl history, in which he was a locker room cancer and set the franchise back for years

I hope that is the case. The team of Wolf/Groh in the front office has been bad. Not sure if it's Wolf or Groh or both, but the 2024 draft stunk. The additions via trade were marginal at best in Lowe & Wheatley. The waiver claims have been garbage.

He was HC twice because of his perceived offensive abilities. He told the Broncos locker room he could make any High School QB an All Pro. Both teams thought he was fraudulent only to magically have good offenses with the Pats. O’Brien forgot how to run an offense when he returned. The common denominator was Tom Brady, Gronk, etc.

I wonder what happened in Miami that Wes got fired. They did have a great WR room, but they also looked well coached and effective during his 3 years down there. Anyone got any info?
If we him brought here we would have another former Patriot player to take over as HC if Vrabel fails.

I don’t care about perception or rumor. I care about his ability as an OC which I view as better than any other candidate. He had the 6th ranked scoring offense with Mac jones and everyone complaining we have no receivers.

For what it's worth, in my college Composition Classes, I got Straight A's. I know how to write. But, as this is just a Fan Forum and a degree isn't riding on my correct use of paragraph's, I rarely bother. But, I went back and made it a little more appropriate.

Did you type can’t where you meant can?
