I think this is what is gonna happen.

Ben Johnson is going to go to jaguars

  • Easy division
  • Players already in place
  • Trevor Lawrence - top 15 QB, equal or better than Goff
  • Great ownership
Vrabel has communicated internally I presume, that he would put the patriots job as 1st priority unless Krafts don't take any action.

So now to satisfy Rooney rule, interview Flores, Saleh or Brian flores.might be better to interview Saleh and other fired coaches to get kickstart on the timing.

I hope Vrabel has a proper plan towards building coaching tree on both sides and also holistically looks at existing coaches who can be retained. Sometimes you don't need to uproot the entire tree.

Springer needs to be retained while AVP and McCartney would be nice to have to maintain continuity while covington might need to be let go .
Covington is the worst DC we’ve had.

The Pats really need to break that model. Doesn't work in the modern NFL and the only guy that could make it work for a bit is gone.

Vrabel is way overated. Johnson is the next guy up

I don't know why Kraft fired Mayo if he's only gonna hire a more successful of the same brand of coach. Which is defensive minded hard nosed football.

Nobody wants to go to the Jags because of Balke. He's a deterrent to HC's. It's been a big story all day.
No way If the Patriots offer Johnson the job he spurns us for the Jags

Jags are way more attractive than us plus 5th overall pick.

And the Jags kept Balke. So they are basically a total deterrent for any coaches. Pats, Jets and Bears are the teams Johnson will be looking at. Pats and Bears honestly should be the most attractive of those two.
Jets are out. BJ not interested. Jets are interviewing only Aaron Glenn

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there are only 4 head coaching vacancies, right? Pats, Jets, Bears, and Jags. Am I missing anyone? The Giants are keeping Daboll.

That’s also really good news, this is a remarkably low number of job openings, so more chances to get the candidate you want. In the recent past, I believe there have been 6-7 openings annually.
Comes down to wanting to coach Maye, Caleb, or Trevor. Advantage Pats. Added sugar is all the cap space allowing a new regime unheard of flexibility in turning over the roster.

But is Wolf strapped on? Or is Johnson handpicking his own GM?

Only in that they have a couple more offensive players than we do.

4th overall pick and Higgins will change that in quick succession.

I think all 3 have had lousy coaching but Drake looks comparatively better. But situations matter, jags are primed to win AFC South with better coaching while we need to hit a home run in draft and free agency for coach to be effective. Huge difference.

Curious how each staff would look like on offense with Ben at HC.

I would assume Ben takes his Lions staff with him. Did not realize our friend Mark Brunell was their QB coach. Him getting promoted to OC under his staff may make our fanbase's heads explode.

Antwaan Randle El enters his fourth season with the Lions as wide receivers coach in 2024

Nick Caley...McDaniels OC disciple is currently there.

Caley should be on Vrabel's short list of OCs when the Pats hire Vrabel (I agree it is a forgone conclusion he will be head coach). Learning from McVay is invaluable. Caley is in charge of the Rams' passing offense right now.

Glenn would be a great hire for the Jets.
But for the Jets that’s just a Rooney Rule check-the-box interview. Rex Ryan has it in the bag - just ask him!

Ryan was asked on ESPN New York if he thinks he is going to get the Jets head-coaching job, and he said he’s very confident he will.

“100 percent, absolutely I do. And the reason I think I’m going to get it is because I’m the best guy and it ain’t close,” Ryan said.

Either Vrabel or Johnson will come with their guy.
Who is Vrable's guy? The guy who thought he could trade away AJ Brown and replace him with Traylon Burks?

No thanks

Does he call plays?

I hope this go 'round involves real, serious football interviews, not whatever off-putting weird stuff is reported to have occurred when staffing up Mayo.
