If due diligence includes reading PatsFans then you are right.
Let's hope Wolf does the same during the Draft... you hear that Wolf??

That would be a bad move. Johnson might be the Josh McDaniels of this decade.
He's in a great situation. Certainly an offensive wiz. But, who knows if he can manage the political side and run an entire team?

Pats should NOT be looking to give another young coordinator his first crack to find out.
This line of thinking is kinda silly. By this logic, literally any offensive assistant you hire could be the next Josh McDaniels.

How did hiring the young offensive mind work out for the Rams, 49ers, Packers, Vikings?

That is my hope.
I'm really willing to give Wolf a shot with a competent HC who can provide him with guidance on what players need to be drafted based on the offensive and defensive system/scheme.

I really think Mayo was so ****ing clueless he didn't do Wolf any favors.
Ben Johnson seem like a guy that will pick his destination as HC very carefully.

If he comes, i don’t see him coming to work with someone else. He will want to work with his guy.

This is a good move.

The Pats need to go through the entire hiring process this time 'round. Everybody who can be interviewed, should be interviewed. Guys who pique the interest of ownership should be brought in for second interviews, or a third, if necessary. I will be disappointed if the list of candidates is less than five legit coaching prospects. Not counting guys brought in just to satisfy the rooney rule requirements. Vrabel and Johnson would be two... Brady in Buffalo should be a third...

This goes hand in hand with the franchise as a whole needing to be revamped. What worked for Belichick will not work for anyone else. He was a singular entity, willing to wear as many hats as possible. Time to move on from that type of centralized power structure.

At the very least the franchise needs to expand its front office. It needs to add multiple roles, bringing the team in line with how currently successful franchises are run.

Wolf will be gone or a GM will be hired as his boss. Wolf will not be picking FAs or draft picks. The Krafts are moving fast, Mayo is gone and the Ben Johnson interview request is sent. The Krafts are working with urgency so they can get the new coach and new GM in place before FA starts.

I like Ben Johnson but I don’t think it’s a given hes an offensive genius. The Lions have arguably the best OL in the NFL. Running the ball with that unit and calling play action off of it isn’t exactly rocket science.

Curious how each staff would look like on offense with Ben at HC.

I would assume Ben takes his Lions staff with him. Did not realize our friend Mark Brunell was their QB coach. Him getting promoted to OC under his staff may make our fanbase's heads explode.

I don't expect them to hire him but I am glad they are talking to him. I would be happy with him. He is like my "1B" choice.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there are only 4 head coaching vacancies, right? Pats, Jets, Bears, and Jags. Am I missing anyone? The Giants are keeping Daboll.

That’s also really good news, this is a remarkably low number of job openings, so more chances to get the candidate you want. In the recent past, I believe there have been 6-7 openings annually.
And the Jags kept Balke. So they are basically a total deterrent for any coaches. Pats, Jets and Bears are the teams Johnson will be looking at. Pats and Bears honestly should be the most attractive of those two.

Maybe he can lure Hank Fraley along with him. Part of the equation for that elite OL is coaching.

He probably turns us down for the interview.

I am sure JAG Tackles Lowe and Jacobs wouldn't be Starting on his Offense... so there.

Vrabel will be the hire but they are doing their due diligence
I think this is what is gonna happen.

Ben Johnson is going to go to jaguars

  • Easy division
  • Players already in place
  • Trevor Lawrence - top 15 QB, equal or better than Goff
  • Great ownership
Vrabel has communicated internally I presume, that he would put the patriots job as 1st priority unless Krafts don't take any action.

So now to satisfy Rooney rule, interview Flores, Saleh or Brian flores.might be better to interview Saleh and other fired coaches to get kickstart on the timing.

I hope Vrabel has a proper plan towards building coaching tree on both sides and also holistically looks at existing coaches who can be retained. Sometimes you don't need to uproot the entire tree.

Springer needs to be retained while AVP and McCartney would be nice to have to maintain continuity while covington should be let go .

I'm leaning Vrabel because the Pats are set up for one know-it-all ******* to be in charge. But if Johnson can be that *******, I'm for it.
The Pats really need to break that model. Doesn't work in the modern NFL and the only guy that could make it work for a bit is gone.

His imagination at OC is impressive.

Nobody wants to go to the Jags because of Balke. He's a deterrent to HC's. It's been a big story all day.
