Here is what Jerod Mayo can do that would resolve the Pats’ problem, and Jerod and Bob would both come out of this smelling like roses.
If we are REALLY lucky, Jerod will read this and take it to heart.
It AIN’T happening though.
“Hi Bob, now that the season is over, could I have five minutes of your time?
I really appreciate the opportunity that you have given me, and I see that it is causing a lot of problems for you.
Here’s the deal. I am in over my head, and I can see that now that I’ve spent a season on the job.
We are both in a tough position. You want to save face and I want to be a successful head coach in the NFL.
Your fans are ready to mutiny and there is no reason to expect things to be better next year.
I was not ready for this job. I haven’t paid my dues like other head coaches have done and I feel like getting the job the way I did, with Bill leaving earlier than expected, was not a great development for either of us.
Here is what I am going to do.
I am resigning as head coach of the New England Patriots. I am going to find coaching jobs that will prepare me to be a head coach in the future. I will work my way up and be ready for the next opportunity when it arises.
You do not owe me any money. You are now free to hire a better head coach and make the other changes that need to be done to return this franchise to it’s previous glory.
Drake is a great young QB and maybe even a better man.
Now that you have him, the top pick in the draft, and tons of cap space, this team is in a great position to become a powerhouse.
Thank you for all that you have done for me, and maybe in the future I can once again become the head coach of the New England Patriots, once I am ready and have paid my dues.”
