Exactly. That’s what Jonathan was grousing about in the box, not Covington or the Condiment. AVP is gone, and he’s the least of the team’s problems, and probably their most competent coach.

Bob has lost about 20 mph off his pedestrian 85 mph fastball. BB’s early success and continued brilliance protected Patriots Nation from a below average owner. Now Bob is an elderly man being scammed by a nice telemarketer named Mayo and Jonathan has yet to do something about it.

If the Krafts follow through with the plan to throw AVP under the bus, there won’t be a single NFL caliber OC willing to work for a duplicitous, incompetent, head coach entering a lame duck season, who will throw him under the bus at the first sign of trouble.

Running it back with Mayo, Covington & whatever POS OC that would take a job under Mayo would be an unmitigated disaster. 0 & 17 would not be off the table & Maye would be looking at 3 OCs on his first 3 seasons.

Not to mention, the fan base won’t be fooled into believing AVP was the issue and season ticket sales would fall off the cliff. The stadium will be empty & it will be impossible to sell tickets on the secondary market.

I’m sure he isn’t looking for that right now anyway, but if he hits it off with Maye, I bet teams will come calling for him again in 2 years tops. They’d need to have some assurances of stability, not just with him but the guys under him that he would inevitably pilfer when he leaves.

McDaniels failed twice as a head coach, and had that weird situation with the Colts. Great offensive mind, but I am not sure anyone wants him as a head coach. I understand he is not going to UNC.

Don't think that's even necessary after the last few years, I doubt he would be considered for a coaching job and will be looked at as a good OC.

If what you are saying is true, Mayo would never been guaranteed the job as part of his last contract (speculation, but it doesn't matter) or hired as HC. Word is Jonathan didn't want Mayo. There is no way Wolf said, "Mayo is the guy." And if he consulted Robin on football matters, that just proves Robert shouldn't be making decisions. So, I am forced to conclude that Mayo took advantage of an elderly, impaired man to weasel his way into the job by endearing himself to the old man, and there is evidence for that. Scammers target the elderly because they are easy marks. It doesn't take a genius to scam an old man, it just takes someone who can identify soft spots, and Mayo found Kraft's.

I feel about Mayo and his PR blunders the same way I felt about Bill being an ass to the press. I don't really care as long as the coaching is good. The problem for Mayo is that he doesn't have much to show for his coaching so his PR blunders are what we have to talk about.

One style created the conflict between the coach and the press, the other creates controversy that brings in the players. It is difficult enough to keep a team together and focused during a rebuild without needlessly adding fuel to the fire.
