Van Pelt is precisely the point I've made all season about the offensive line.FIFY. Let’s be honest, AVP has been pretty bad, just not as totally bad as others. His play calling is abysmal. As OC he is ultimately responsible for OL and WR quality of play. About the only part of his job that could get a satisfactory performance review would be developing, or at least not screwing up, Drake Maye. Everything else has been so bad I’m wondering how much Maye is a self made QB.
Alex Van Pelt is a below-average NFL Offensive Coordinator. But, he at least has minimum competency at the job. When you're surrounded on all sides by incompetent people - it really shows through just what a difference minimum competency can be.
That's what I've said about the offensive line. You could have paid an extra couple bucks to bring in some patchwork, below-average NFL linemen in, still have been plenty under the cap, but the difference in the offensive operation would be night and day. Instead, you cheaped out completely, and brought in people who do not meet the minimum requirements to be an NFL offensive lineman, both through the draft and free agency.
