Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

FIFY. Let’s be honest, AVP has been pretty bad, just not as totally bad as others. His play calling is abysmal. As OC he is ultimately responsible for OL and WR quality of play. About the only part of his job that could get a satisfactory performance review would be developing, or at least not screwing up, Drake Maye. Everything else has been so bad I’m wondering how much Maye is a self made QB.
Van Pelt is precisely the point I've made all season about the offensive line.

Alex Van Pelt is a below-average NFL Offensive Coordinator. But, he at least has minimum competency at the job. When you're surrounded on all sides by incompetent people - it really shows through just what a difference minimum competency can be.

That's what I've said about the offensive line. You could have paid an extra couple bucks to bring in some patchwork, below-average NFL linemen in, still have been plenty under the cap, but the difference in the offensive operation would be night and day. Instead, you cheaped out completely, and brought in people who do not meet the minimum requirements to be an NFL offensive lineman, both through the draft and free agency.

Maye staunchly backed AVP.
His mechanics were night and day from collegex
I think he put in real work.
If AVP is the fall guy it’s a joke.
If Covington is allowed to even coach the practice squad it’s a joke.

I've been a fan of Tom Curran for a long time, but his shameless shilling for Mayo and the Krafts has in my mind forfeited any respect I might have had for him as a journalist. He keeps bringing up the notion that VanPelt might have been "insubordinate," setting up the only coach on the team who has done at least a competent job of meeting his coaching responsibilities as the fall guy. Shameless ass-kissing on Curran's part, lying in effect because the Krafts have buttered his bread for decades, and Mayo is a pal.
But he hasn’t.

He’s responsible for the entire offense. How did they look on Sunday, coming off a bye week?

He’s responsible for play calling. It’s a joke.

OL is part of his responsibilities as OC. How has he shown competence in coaching them?

WRs are part of his responsibilities as OC. How are they doing?

There’s no current GM but Wolf is in a role that acts as the GM. If you hire a true GM then I’m not sure what Wolf does. Is he just supporting the GM in some assistant type role? Seems like unnecessary overlap. Probably not different from Wolf and Groh right now though. Groh would be gone and Wolf would be the new Groh.

What Wolf does, is Get the **** Out.

You can only coach what you have. You don't have linemen and wide receivers, you have imposters who can't play, collecting paychecks.

McAdoo or McCartney.
I'm leaning toward McCartney. I think Maye intentionally is keeping that guy's name out of his mouth, so he stays under the radar - and I also think in 25 years he'll be giving Maye's intro speech at the hall of fame.

Feel like we’re getting things confused here.

No one is saying AVP doesn’t suck. He just sucks the least.
He does suck but the offense is somehow better than the defense, despite the defensive roster being far better and the HC, DC and almost all of the players being carry-overs from last year’s solid unit. That is far more concerning.

AVP’s performance is like a 3 out of 10 but Covington’s (and by extension, Mayo’s) is a 1 out of 10.

AVP is the only coach I 100% think SHOULD be back next year - Maye has developed a ton this year, to the point where I think he's set up to be the best of this draft class when all is said and done; if his arc continues on a track reasonably close to what it has been so far, he's the top QB from this draft hands down........a couple of the others have come into a situation better than Maye's, and have better overall stats, but the tools & skillset Maye has shown so far will move him to the head of that class rather quickly.........looking at where he was when drafted and where he is at now, his development has been top notch.......someone has brought him along quite nicely - conservative playcalling aside, that's gotta bode well for AVP
As QB coach maybe. But that’s the only part of his job he’s done okay.

As OC he owns the state of our OL. ‘Nuff said.

No. The front office owns the state of the offensive line.
When I say they brought in players who can't play, I mean it, these guys can't play, it's an embarrassment. And there's only so much you can do as an offensive coordinator when you have 8 people on the field who can't play, and you want to run route concepts.

I don't know what the deal is, but it seems like AVP and Mayo haven't been on the same page for a while. Obviously, I have no way to prove that, but based on Mayo's comments since pretty much the start of the summer, reading between the lines, it just always seemed like there was some tension to me. It almost seems like a foregone conclusion that Van Pelt will be scapegoated in a few weeks.
If they’re not on the same page that’s both of them failing. As HC Mayo is AVP’s boss. Part of any job is knowing what your boss wants. That’s on AVP.

as HC Mayo is AVP’s boss. As boss part of your job is making sure your subordinates know what’s expected of them. That’s on Mayo.

Both get unsat ratings. One part of being boss is you get to fire subordinates who don’t meet your expectations. AVP isn’t being scapegoated; he’s an underperforming underling and firing him is appropriate.

Yep. That's all true, but I do thinks he the best of the bunch in that he seems (so we hear) that he has been a good first NFL coach for Maye. That's about it, though. I fully unbderstand that to say AVP is the best of this group is probhably toi damn him with faint praise. To be clear, I do favor a complete sweep of everybody

**** like not knowing how to line up, multiple times, is on the coaches. If they don’t know that, get them off the field. It’s not like the guys playing are so much better than the backups.

Here we are twisting ourselves into pretzels over who to keep, who to let go, who to bring in, how to get them, blah, blah, blah. NOTHING that involves keeping Mayo as head coach (and Wolf as de facto GM) makes ANY sense going forward. You can't "fix things" under people who are inherently inept.

The Krafts need to blow this thing up and start again from scratch with a sense of urgency.

And they should have done this *last* offseason, instead of 'bring everyone back but Bill'.

What Bob Kraft did was irresponsibly unprofessional. An old man who unwisely let his personal sentiment rule the day. A monumental miscalculation.
