Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

There's no way he's back next season. I've seen a HC in the NFL look so bad during the course of a season.

I'm quite shocked they have 3 wins so far.
I think you’re right. The tea leaves are starting to turn towards Mayo being let go in 3 weeks.

Wolf has two saving graces right now.

1. He drafted Maye.

2. We don't know how much control he had prior to this year, so there could be the assumption that this is only strike one.

He's also never in the media so he isn't drawing much attention to himself.
Passing on Ladd was strike two. Drafting Polk was strike three.

I think what some folks have speculated and now is echoed by Albert Breer - if they really love Vrabel this is their only chance. He won’t be available in 2026. They can’t keep Jerod 1 more year and pivot to Vrabel after that if it doesn’t work out, Vrabel will be long gone.
Not just Mayo. The entire building. Scouts, GM, Glazer etc etc. All gone. Let a new coach bring in his own people.

Right, but part of the decision is if they fire Mayo and bring someone who demands GM say, then they're firing Wolf, too. Do we really think Kraft has come to the decision on Wolf, too?
I think it likely depends on some factors. If Vrabel thinks he can work with Wolf and they can come up with a solution where Vrabel has some level of personnel power alongside Wolf then maybe they retain Wolf.

I don’t think Wolf has been amazing but it’s much harder to judge his work drafting in 1 year, and also considering the terrible coaching his draft picks have received. And at least he knows how to handle a damn press conference.

Everyone has to go. It wouldn't make sense if Mayo is only fired. This was like an extremely worse version of Carroll being fired for the poor decisions Bobby Grier kept making.

It's almost impossible for me to believe that Robert Kraft is ready for that.

Probably nothing, but worth wondering about.

Maybe there’s a chance someone is getting canned today.
Oh I think it's something. Why cancel the media availability. When something very unusual happens it's not for nothing.

alot of speculation here.

One Mayo gets fired
Two Vrabel chooses us over say the Jets.
Three we are interested in a non offensive minded head coach.

Damage control, protecting Mayo from the media and the players talking bad about the coaches.

Everyone is in a fight or flight complex right now.
We saw it first with Ju Ju and Jalen.
It’s bad it’s real bad.

I tend to agree a bit. I think it’s more likely that Mayo would be let go but Wolf retained with some changes under Wolf. This also keeps Kraft from having to pay multiple HCs and GMs at a time on terminated deals. It would just be Mayo and his replacements’ deals overlapping.

If the drafting isn’t up to snuff after another season then they can delay that change another year and bring in a GM that Vrabel (assuming it’s him) prefers and can coordinate with.

A total and complete tear down and rebuild seems like a lot for the Krafts. But it’s possible.

I went straight to the comments on Youtube for the game highlights. Almost all comments that follow the Pats are that they can't stand Mayo's signature blank stare on the sidelines and that he needs to be fired. Every week it's a new soundbite we are laughing at. Also, he's always blaming someone else and then backtracks the next day.

I agree but thats the only way a new guy will come in. Having relics from a bygone era haunting the place does nothing.
I agree. This is what needs to happen. But I think it needs to get way worse for Kraft before he's going to realize it.

They didn’t cancel Mayo’s press conference this morning or his WEEI appearance though. So not sure.

I think it's coming. Just not this year, unfortunately.

One thing about the offense play calling. Much of the offensive gains happen after things break down

I’m not one to give him credit for drafting Maye. He had the third pick in a 3 QB draft in a season you desperately needed a QB.

There was some crazy people out there wanting to trade back but conventional wisdom was you had to take a QB there.

I judge him from all of the other moves and can’t think of a single one that has panned out. That seems almost impossible to do.

This is how I see it:

2025: Fire Mayo and his staff, hire Vrabel and let him bring in his own staff. Keep Wolf, make some changes to positions under Wolf to bring in some new voices.

2026: If front office still isn’t getting it done, fire Wolf and replace him with someone Vrabel wants. Both guys have signed off on each other, Vrabel is good enough to keep the team at least competitive. Give that pairing 2 years.

2028: Time to extend Maye. If front office is still not getting it done then either replace the GM and possibly Vrabel, or give Vrabel executive power if he has earned it.
