Anyone else deeply concerned a change won't be made? Feeling like keeping Mayo another year could set the franchise back even further. Could really be bad for Maye's development.

I really feel like we're going to be the Chargers for a while. Middling team with a good QB that can't win enough games consistently. And we'll linger there until Kraft finally realizes it and hires whoever that year's version of Harbaugh will be. And then it'll be a quick transformation. But until then it's going to be ugly.

That is a very optimistic projection. This team need to radically change direction and significantly improve just to achieve "middling".

Doesn’t this just trickle down through the entire team though?

The owner has a hard-on for the coach for entirely personal reasons, so the coach escapes all accountability and gets a free pass. Therefore he doesn’t actually try very hard this year because he knows it’s all a mulligan anyway. The coaches under him can’t get any support from him and know that if things don’t look good they will be the scapegoats. The players see this dynamic and the sense of “meh, this year doesn’t count anyway” and so they also don’t give proper effort either. And they know any complaints about how things are managed will be ignored due to previously stated personal relationship between owner and HC.

It’s toxic.

This is my main worry since it seems like AVP will be a sacrificial lamb at some point in the next few weeks. If Van Pelt was the 11th choice last season who is left? Between the apparent dysfunction on the coaching staff, a severe lack of talent on offense, and coming to work under a shaky coach who just threw the last guy under the bus, how are we going to attract to talent OC? Maybe Maye is somewhat alluring but would you have confidence you'd get more than a year with him if things don't turn around next season?

Keep Jerod, fire AVP, bring in some random ass underqualified OC nobody wants, nothing improves and they fire everyone after 2025, and Maye ends up with his 3rd OC in 3 years in 2026

Just fire the whole staff now and bring in a competent HC who will be able to get a competent OC (if the HC is not the playcaller himself) and then Maye probably gets more stability going forward

Which ones? Mayo's first comments or the ones he walked back?

I think they're going to realize they can't do better than AVP if they fire him and Mayo will walk back that he ever had a problem with AVP.

He's such a ****y. I would respect him more if he just stood by what he said even if it didn't look good. At least I could know he actually believes the **** he's saying.

He was pretty much guaranteed two years and his mouth is talking him out of it. I still don't think he's getting fired, but he totally deserves it
